is all scheduled to be unveiled tomorrow at a press conference in Mumbai tomorrow. Except for the price we know everything about this car. Here we list of things of importance which would be critical from Tata’s perspective.
Tata Tiago launch tomorrow; formerly known as Zica
Make or break car for Tata
Tata Tiago is the best looking car from the Indian manufacturer till date and has made a serious effort to present itself as a standalone car rather than the family evolved from Indica hatch. The company has put in a lot of efforts to make this a success right from the branding, design to the publicity. Tata Motors got Lionel Messi on board as an ambassadorfor the ‘Made of Great’ campaign which saw Tata draw parallels between the Tiago and Lionel Messi himself.
The national records set by Tiago
Tata Tiago during the endurance run
Tata Motors has proved the reliability and durability of Tiago by running it for 18 daysnonstop except for short pit stops after every two hours for driver changes, fuel fill-ups, routine checks, and cleaning of the windshield/ headlamps, racking up 50,000 kilometres in the process. Tata Tiago both with their Revotronand Revotorq engines crossed the 50,000 milestone in over 400 hours of continuous running on a high-speed test track.
The grey areas
For starters, Tata does not feature have a reputation of great after sales service though the facts can be different from reality. But the perception people have developed over the years cannot be changed easily. Secondly, the delay in the launch of the car has reduced the anticipation amongst masses. Ideally, the car should have been launched with the ‘made of great’ campaign but the reason for the delay is very well known and understandable. Tiago, previously known as ‘Zica’ underwent a name changeas a deadly virus called ‘Zika’ spread across certain parts of the world during the same time.
Tata Tiago is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 85 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm while there is a diesel option in 1.05-litre three-cylinder unit producing 70 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque.
