The next generation of the Bentley Continental will feature a hybrid powertrain.
The next generation of the Bentley Continental will feature a hybrid powertrain. Along with that, a W12 engine and a V8 engine will also be offered. The W12 unit will be a new 6.0-litre twin turbo unit that made its debut in the Bentayga SUV. Power output will be around the 600 bhp mark. The V8 will be an updated version of the current 4.0-litre engine. The hybrid powertrain will use a V6 engine and will be similar to the system used in the Porsche Cayenne plug-in hybrid. A diesel is unlikely to be offered.
The Bentley Continental GT was seen testing recently in the body of the current Porsche Panamera
The new Continental will be based on all-new MSB platform that also underpins the next generation Porsche Panamera. The platform has been co-developed by Porsche and Bentley. It will be elongated to be used on the next-generation Panamera. The new Continental has been seen testing with the Panamera bodyshell which is shorter. The ride height and cooling has been altered to meet the requirements of Bentley. It been seen testingrecently.
While the current Continental has a steel body, the new car will be made from aluminium and will have high-strength steel reinforcing the body. The car will be substantially lighter but it will still weigh more than 2 tonnes. The current car weighs 2,375 kgs. This was confirmed by the boss, Wolfgang Dürheimer.
Design wise, the Continental GT could take inspiration from the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept that was shown at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The car should be launched sometime in 2017 and should reach showrooms by 2018. First the coupe will be launched and it will be followed by the convertible. Later, the Flying Spur luxury sedan will be launched.

The Continental GT is one of the oldest coupes on sale. It was launched during the 2003 Geneva Motor Show. The car has received updates since then but the styling and the platform are still the same. It is available as a coupe and a convertible and is powered by a 6.0-litre twin turbo W12 engine or a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine. Both the engines are available in two states of tune. It is mated to an 8-speed ZF Tiptronic automatic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. In India, the Continental range starts at INR 3.28 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 4.03 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
