Mercedes-Benz has released the first AMG performance model for the new E-Class sedan.
Mercedes-Benz has released the first AMG performance model for the new E-Class sedan. Although it is not the highly anticipated E 63 sedan, AMG has released a less powerful, E 43 sedan.
The E 43 is the base E-Class-based AMG model and is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine
“The new E 43 4MATIC offers impressive driving dynamics coupled with cutting-edge efficiency. Twin turbocharging, features adopted from motorsport and the characteristic AMG design immediately indicate to our customers that the new E‑Class from AMG offers pure Driving Performance coupled with cutting-edge technology and intense emotion,” notes Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH
Subtle design changes set it apart from the regular E-Class. At the front, it gets new air intakes, new diamond grille and at the back, it gets a spoiler lip, a silver chrome rear diffuser and chrome plated quad exhaust pipes. The car gets a lot of AMG badges and the wheels are five-spoke AMG wheels.
On the inside, the sedan gets front sports seats with ARTICO man-made leather with the option of Nappa leather, red contrast stitching, red seat belts, exclusive pedals and a new multifunction flat bottomed steering wheel. The instrument cluster on the new car is 4.5-inch multifunction colour display with a chequered flag design, RACETIMER and a 280 kmph scale.
The car will make its debut at the New York auto expo later this month
Powering the new Mercedes-AMG E 43 sedan is a 3.0-litre biturbo V6 engine producing 401 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 520 Nm of torque between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. It is mated to a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The car weighs 1,765 kgs with 90% fuel onboard and it accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 4.6 seconds and goes on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph. The sedan returns 12.04 kms to a litre of fuel.
The transmission is available in 5 modes via the DYNAMIC SELECT. They are Eco, Comfort, Manual, Sport and Sport Plus. The sports suspension for the car has been designed by AMG and it is based on the AIR BODY CONTROL. It comes in three different modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system is a rear-biased system with 69% of the power going to the rear wheels and only 31% to the front wheels. The speed-sensitive sports steering is also available in two modes: Comfort and Sport.
Stopping power is provided by all four disk brakes. The brake calipers have AMG lettering on them. The car rides on 19-inch wheels with 20-inch bichromatic wheels available as an optional extra.
The E 43 4MATIC is highly unlikely to come to India
The new 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 43 4MATIC will make its global debut at the New York International Auto Show which will be held later this month. Market launches will begin in September this year. It is highly unlikely that the car will come to the Indian market.
Mercedes-Benz recently revealed the next generation of the E-Class sedan. A second hardcore AMG E 63 model will be launched soon. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class competes with the Audi A6, Jaguar XF, Volvo S60 and the BMW 5-series.
