Royal Enfield under the ownership of Eicher Motors and especially under the leadership of Siddharth Lal is flourishing like no other brand in the world. The workhorses behind the success run being Classic 350 and Classic 500, which commands strong and consistent demand in the market, while Thunderbird twins are doing well too. Company perfected their products over the period and tried to eleminate maximum issuse, which were earlier associated with their bikes, as per the new age customer demands. As a part of their journey towards Royal Enfield 2.0, company recently rolled out their first all new bike – the Himalayan. Himalayan is the most affordable multi purpose motorcycle available in India and across the world, in its segment. But still it has inherent drawback of like every other RE i.e. lack of power.
Expect the new motorcycles to be an evolution of their current product design language.
According to recent reports, company is working on an all-new 600 – 650 cc twin cylinder engine – a company first, which will be the most powerful unit in brand’s portfolio. The work is on fast track with special attention being paid by Mr. Lal, who recently has shifted to UK. This engine will put RE into mid-weight category, up against Harley Davidson and Triumph. The markets like US and Europe, where this motorcycle maker has just started to venture in, needs a product with more power and more character. Company aims to be global leader in mid weight category – 200cc to 750cc, and it is impossible without a new product.
Classic series of motorcycles highly contributed in turnaround of the brand in Indian market.
The new bike is code-named as P61 and will most likey be a lifestyle cruiser as this body style is the most preferred style in North American market. Remember, North America is homeland of Harley Davidson – the brand which has strong legacy of cruisers. Apart from this new bike, company is also working on bigger displacement versions of Classic and Thunderbird, codenamed as D41 and D61 respectively. Everything depends on the new engine, which must develop 40+ hp. As off now, the new Royal Enfield is set to hit the roads next year. We wish Royal Enfield all the very best for their future plans.
Harley Davidson Street 750 would be the closest rival for the new Royal Enfield
