Mercedes-Benz has released the updated the CLA coupe ahead of its global debut at the New York International Auto Show which will be held later this month.
The car now gets a diamond radiator grille in black as standard, a new front bumper with a trim strip and a rear bumper with an optional trim strip. 5 different choices are available for the alloy wheel design, including one new 5-twin-spoke AMG design and this is available in a black paint finish or titanium grey paint finish. Optionally, the car comes with LED High Performance Headlamps and tail lights with automatic intensity control. The Mercedes-Benz CLA can now be finished in a new paint shade called cavansite blue metallic.
On the inside, the car gets new seat covers and trims and the COMAND screen is a slimmer free-standing 8-inch unit. The instrument cluster gets new dials with red needles. All the control buttons and switches are finished in silver chrome. New trim elements and new seat covers are available for the interior. ARTICO leather is available as an option for the seats.
The equipment list includes HANDS-FREE ACCESS, which opens the boot lid electrically. It is a part of the KEYLESS-GO Comfort package. Smartphone integration is available as an option and it can connect Android and Apple devices. Ambient lighting is available and you have a choice of 12 different colours. The safety systems include the latest in autonomous safety systems like Active Brake Assist (also known as COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS).
The new 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA gets two new engine options. The new engine options are a petrol and a diesel. The diesel is a 1.5-litre unit in the CLA 180 d BlueEFFICIENCY Edition. It produces 109 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque between 1,750 rpm and 2,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a manual transmission only. An automatic transmission is not available. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 11.6 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 190 kmph. It returns 28.57 kms to a litre of fuel. The petrol is a 2.0-litre engine in the CLA 220 4MATIC. It produces 184 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque between 1,200 rpm and 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a 7-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 7.1 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 240 kmph. It returns 15.38 kms to a litre of fuel.
The new Mercedes-Benz CLA will make its global debut at the New York International Auto Show due to be held later this month. It will be launched to the public during the Laureus World Sports Awards in April. Bookings for the car will start in April and deliveries will start in July this year.
In India, the Mercedes-Benz CLA starts at INR 31.50 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 35.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It competes with the Audi A3.
