Zika Virus, that’s the name of the dreaded parasite that has been haunting entire of South America and is spreading rapidly throughout the world. Coincidentally and unfortunately, the name of the virus clashed with a new upcoming budget hatchback that Tata was all set to launch last month. The company announced that it would rename their car as a socially responsible company and here it is. The new Tata Tiago is born. Basically, the same shape, the Tiago feels like a much lively name and definitely has a young vibe to it. Now that Tata Motors have figured out the new name, we expect the Tiago to launch pretty soon in India, by March 2016.

The Tata Tiago is powered by a new set of 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines from the Revotron and Revotorq engine families respectively. The 1.2-litre petrol develops 85PS while the diesel develops 77PS. The Tiago promises class leading fuel economy and has a great ride and handling balance. We drove the car in Goa in December 2015and found it to be very capable for city commuting or those long highway stints. Gearbox options is only a 5-speed manual for the moment, but Tata might introduce the Tiago with a AMT automatic gearbox sometime later.

The Tata Tiago comes loaded with equipment on the insides, which feels roomy and is a huge leap over the preceding hatchbacks Tata has ever produced. The Tiago gets first in class features like a Bluetooth infotainment system with support for Android apps and also displays turn by turn direction on the central screen. The car will be offered with ABS and dual airbags on the top variants and comes with a dual path semi independent suspension setup at the rear. Now we are so eager for the car to finally launch and hope that Tata prices it extremely well to sweep out its competition.
