It is safe to say Mahindra SUVs strike pretty much anyone in its first appearance, largely courtesy of its imposing front fascia with a raised stance. In this upcoming frugal SUV, codenamed Mahindra U301, the company has retained their typical essence of intimidation upfront, notwithstanding the underplayed design that passes on with the association of the nameplate, Bolero.

Nicknamed as next-gen Bolero in the media fraternity, Mahindra U301 is expected to be a rural market’s XUV500 and a more affordable Scorpio in the urban jungle, considering the premium aura this vehicle carries already, in comparison with current Mahindra Bolero. New Mahindra U301is underpinned by an improvised version of the modular third-generation ladder frame chassis developed for and employed in Mahindra Scorpio.

Powering this sub-Rs. 10 lakh SUV is confirmed to be the 3-cylinder 1.5 litre turbocharged, common rail, mCR100 diesel engine doing duty in Mahindra Quanto, but with some substantial improvements. This engine delivers 100 bhp max power @ 3,750 rpm and 240 Nm @ 1,600-2,800 rpm, in Quanto, these specs are most likely to change in the optimised version of the same engine, for Mahindra U301.
Mahindra is highly unlikely to discontinue the existing Bolero model, as it still is in great demand, and sales is high and consistent.
And the features. Much like the top end SUVs from the Indian automaker, U301 is sure to be loaded with functions and facilities, making the car feel premium in comparison with the present Bolero. One of those features will be Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
