Datsun – the Nissan’s dedicated attempt at entry level market of India, didn’t get a warm enough response as they would have loved to. Both cars – Goand Go+are built to price. It did offer better looks, good space and bigger engine compared to other offerings in the segment. We don’t mean that built to price cars are always a compromise, but Datsuns lagged in critical areas like safety, built quality and equipment levels. Their partner -Renault, managed to crack the toughest nut of the Indian entry level car market and took the Kwidout as a result. Now Nissan wish to replicate the formula with their own set of ingredients.
The Datsun Redi GO will be an entry level hatchback built on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A platform, the same platform on which Renault build Kwid. Unlike exchange of cars these two brands did in the past, Redi GO and Kwid will look distinctively different and won’t have any cosmetic element in common with them. Recent rendering of Redi GO, created by team GaadiWaadi, confirms the same. According to source, the production spec car carries forward maximum elements from it’s concept model showcased during 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Even though it does not have SUV-ish stance, taller shoulder line and masculine side profile adds necessary flare to the design. Shorter length coupled with taller stance makes this car unique though.
Redi Go from Datsun will be mechanically influenced by the Renault Kwid.
Datsun Redi GO has been recently spotted many timesundergoing test rounds around the factory – where it will be produced, in Chennai. Looking at the prototype, the launch seems to be around the corner and may take place as soon as next month. Datsun Redi GO could share many mechanical elements – if not cosmetic, with Renault Kwid. The 799 cc SCe engine which produces 54 PS will most likely be plonked under the hood this car and will be coupled with 5 speed manual transmission as well as with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) unit. The targeted segment is highly price conscious and thus Nissan would most likely place this car marginally below its French sibling to ensure the maximum initial impact.
The brand Datsun has high hopes from Redi GO
