The Dutch manufacturer has returned to the market with an all-new supercar called the Spyker C8 Preliator at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show .
. Preliator means “fighter” or “warrior” in latin and it refers to the “Fighters”, which were warplanes built by Spyker between 1914 and 1918.
Spyker says that the design of the new car is heavily inspired by aviation design. It features a few aircraft-inspired air intakes, called NACA ducts. The new design improves the aerodynamic design of the car and reduces drag. The housing for the tail lights have been CNC-machined using stainless steel. The headlights, rear lights and side indicators use LEDs. The alloy wheels have a Turbofan design. The interior has also been designed with aviation influence. The supercar gets a high-end sound system, Bluetooth, digital radio, smartphone connectivity and a multifunction Heads-Up display. The Heads-Up display is used to control the navigation system.
The Spyker C8 Preliator is powered by an Audi-sourced supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engine producing 525 bhp at 6,800 rpm and 600 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed Getrag manual transmission or a 6-speed ZF Tiptronic automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. The car, which weighs 1,390 kgs, accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.7 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 322 kmph.
The Preliator is based on a lightweight all-aluminium space frame chassis and the body is made from both aluminium and carbon fibre. The suspension components have been taken from Lotus. The 19-inch wheels have Michelin tyres on them. Brakes are provided by AP Racing. Carbon-ceramic brakes are available as an option.
Production of the new Spyker C8 Preliator is limited to just 50 units. Any colour for the exterior, interior and the brake caliper colour can be chosen to make the supercar completely bespoke. It starts at 3,24,900 euros, excluding taxes.
