The diesel Bentley SUV is likely to borrow the powertrain from the upcoming Audi SQ7 which will debut sometime next year. The SQ7 is a performance version of the Q7 SUV and it will be powered by a diesel engine. It is unclear when the new Bentley SUV will be launched but prototypes of the diesel car have already begun testing. This has been confirmed by the company’s lead engineer Peter Guest.
The Audi SQ7 is likely to be powered by a 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine with electric turbocharging. So there is a possibility that the Bentayga diesel will get the same engine. The engine is expected to produce 428 bhp and 850 Nm of torque.
Electric turbochargers use electric motors to spool up the turbos before they kick in. This eliminates lag.
The SUV might also get a smaller V8 engine and a more powerful W12 engine.
The Bentley Bentayga was launched at the 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Showlast month and took the world by storm. The cabin is one of the most luxurious and it can rival cars like the Mulsanne and even a Rolls-Royce. It comes loaded with a 1920 watt 21-channel amplifier Naim audio system and driver assistance systems including night vision. It even gets a very expensive optional mechanical Breitling clock that costs $170,000. It is powered by a re-engineered version of the 6.0-litre W12 engine producing 600 bhp and 900 Nm of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and power is sent to all four wheels. The SUV accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 4.1 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of 301 kmph. The Bentley Bentayga rivals the Range Rover Autobiography and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.
The diesel SUV will rival cars like the Maserati Levante, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and the Porsche Cayenne diesel.
