Renault Cleared Of Emission Scandal

Earlier, French anti-fraud police raided Renault offices in relation to the emission scandal. Now, French energy minister, Segolene Royal has confirmed that test were carried out and no defect device or other emission cheating softwares were found. “There is no fraud at Renault. Shareholders and employees should be reassured,” she said. The levels of carbon dioxide and nitrogen dioxide were found to be within limits.

After the French anti-fraud police visited the French company, its share market fell by nearly a fifth. Employees confirmed that their computers had been temporarily confiscated. The investigations were done to check possible vehicle emissions violations.

In a statement issued by Renault, the company said that it was working with the French authorities. The French are retesting the emissions of 100 different cars and 25 of the 100 are Renault cars. Renault has a 25% market share in the country.

The tests are being carried out by French Homologation Authority mandated by the Ministry of Economy (UTAC) to ensure that no other manufacturer has installed the defect device. Even though no defect device was found, Renault’s share prices fell 21% wiping five billion Euro in value off. 20% of the company is owned by the French state.

The range starts at INR 2.57 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 27.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The entry level Kwid hatchback has very high demand while the Duster compact SUV is selling in decent numbers. They are struggling to sell the other models.
