The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S was launched about a week back in Delhi with a price tag of Rs.
Rs. 2.40 crore Ex-showroom, Delhi. The flagship sportscar from the German carmaker was driven in by legendary five-time DTM champion and the most successful DTM driver of all time, Mr. Bernd Schneider.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S is the 5th AMG model launched by Mercedes-Benz Indiain 2015 which shows the company’s aggressive plans for the Indian market. It is also only the second car that has been fully developed by AMG, Mercedes’ performance department. The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S is powered by a 3982cc twin turbocharged V8 engine that produces 503BHP of power at 6250RPM and 650Nm of torque between 1750RPM and 4750RPM. The engine is mated to a 7-speed AMG Speedshift Dual Clutch gearbox and is capable of shooting the car forward to a 100Km/hr in around 3.8 seconds. The car weighs just about 1,645Kgs which is relatively light by touring car standards.
The new car looks jaw dropping in every sense and has those classic lines from its predecessor. The rounded headlights have been given a softer design this time around and the front bumper houses a 3-D chrome grille along with the huge 3-pointed star dazzling in the middle. The sides of the car again look a lot less aggressive in overall design but has its own good bits like the blacked out ORVMs and big 19-inch alloy wheels at the front and slightly bigger 20-inchers at the rear.
Bernd Schneider joined DTM (German Touring Car Championship) in the year 1992 and has won a total of 43 races in his career making him the most successful DTM racer of all time. Recently in 2013 he raced in and won many endurance races like the 24 hours of Dubai, the Bathurst 12 hour, the 24 hours Nurburgring and the Spa 24 hours in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The AMG GT S competes with the likes of the Jaguar F-Type Rand the Porsche 911 Turbo which puts it in a highly competitive category because of the fact that emotional appeal also counts big time while buying a car of this price and pace.
