Maruti will give it’s aging WagonR another shot in the arm to continue selling it in India for a few more years. This time around, the facelift hasn’t just been clear lens headlamps, taillamps and a flashy sticker job. Now, Maruti has infused the WagonR with a smart front and a refreshing rear. The front gets new wraparound headlamps and a honeycomb grille that make the dated WagonR look newish. The rear also gets new tail lamps. The side profile, in a major departure from the older WagonR gets a rising window line. This greatly improves the side-on breadbox stance by offering visual relief. The major changes occur in the engine department. The existing WagonR was becoming difficult to drive, especially in the crowded city as emissions strangled the 1061 cc four pot motor, making it’s power delivery very peaky.

In the 2010 version, Maruti has shoehorned the A-Star’s 67 Bhp three cylinder petrol engine. This should give the WagonR some decent pep with very good economy. A CNG version also will hit the market at the same time. We however don’t have any information about any LPG version currently. The WagonR traditionally has been an extremely competent small car, especially in the space department. The family men really loved the cavernous interiors of the WagonR and typically, the new version will be no different. The instrument cluster gets digitized and the interiors too have got a spruce up. Overall, the WagonR makes an extremely good case for itself, be it for the family man with a small family or a young professional looking for a smart city runabout.
