The next time police ask for the vehicle papers, people of Telangana could simply show it to the officer on a cell phone and move on.

The next time police ask for the vehicle papers, people of Telangana could simply show it to the officer on a cell phone and move on. According to estimates,  60 lakh driving licence holders and 80 lakh vehicle owners in the state will benefit from this phone application.

Carrying vehicle papers just became a lot simpler in Telangana!!

The mobile application will be available free of cost for download and after carrying out a one-time registration by furnishing the mobile phone number or Aadhaar number it is ready to be used. Additionally,  multiple e-RC documents and e-licences can also be seen on this app so need not worry if you are a proud owner of multiple vehicles! If you are lending your bike/car to any of your friends and acquaintances, you could also transfer the ownership documents via the app.

“Testing the app is complete and we are ready for the launch of e-licence and e-RC to start with. Over a period of time, other services like permit, pollution certificate and others will also be included in the app,” transport commissioner Sandeep Kumar Sultania told TOI.

“e-RC of the vehicle can be shared with others by the vehicle owner whenever others use his/her vehicle. However, there will be no facility to share driving licence. The government will issue an order in the next few days declaring this facility to be recognised during enforcement,” the commissioner said.

This is a great way of technology being an enabler to help out in simplest of functions. Gone will be the days of harassment of ordinary people by the police for documents. The Telangana government is  trying to be at the forefront in adopting technology for better governing and we at ICB applaud the effort. This would greatly reduce the hassle of taking care of original documents all the time and reducing the corruption as people will not have to bribe the officials to get away with the hefty fines.
