The next generation of the Land Rover Discovery has been rendered by German publication Auto Bild. The renderings are based on the latest design language that is used in all new Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles. It first made its debut with the Range Rover Evoque. The renderings have also been influenced by the Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept. The SUV was seen testing recently. It will have a butch look with some style induced in it. The A-pillar, B-pillar and the C-pillar retain the muscular look of the SUV that made it so popular. The D-pillar is raked to give it a sporty look.
On the inside, the cabin is expected to retain its space and its ruggedness. However, there will be an improvement in quality and more equipment will be offered. It will get the latest infotainment system and Terrain Response system. It will also get the latest in autonomous driving.
The SUV is expected to get the new range of four-cylinder Ingenium engines and a 3.0 litre V6 petrol and 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine. It might get a V8 engine as well. India will not get the petrol engines. The Discovery will be based on the new aluminium platform so it will weigh less than the current car which weighs in at 2.6 tonnes.
The Land Rover Discovery will make its debut by the end of 2016 or early 2017. It competes against the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7, BMW X5, Toyota Land Cruiser, BMW X6, Porsche Cayenne, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the Range Rover Sport. The current Discovery is imported as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit. Hence, it is very expensive. It starts at INR 1.11 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 1.2 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
