Mercedes-Benz has released a new sixth variant of the S-Class Coupe and this is the entry level variant. It has been called the S 400 4MATIC. The other models in the S-Class Coupe range are the Mercedes-Benz S 500 and S 500 4MATIC and the Mercedes-AMG S 63, S 63 4MATIC and the S 65.

The exterior design, which has won many awards, and the interior design of the car will remain exactly the same. The equipment level will also be similar. The car gets different alloy wheels that are taken from the base S-Class sedan variants. It will come equipped with THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control with two climate zones, LED Intelligent Light System with variable light distribution for country roads and motorways, active light function, cornering light function, enhanced fog light function and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, the COMAND Online multimedia system, AIRMATIC, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS and PRE-SAFE as standard.
The new base variant is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine producing 367 bhp between 5,500 to 6,000 rpm and 500 Nm of torque between 1,800 to 4,500 rpm. It is mated to a 7-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 4.6 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of 250 kmph. It returns 12.04 kms to a litre of fuel.
The base S 400 4MATIC variant has been priced at 99,960 euros. It is unknown if this variant comes to India, where the S 500 4MATIC and the S 63 AMG are on sale. The S 500 has been priced at INR 2 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) while the AMG variant costs INR 2.60 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The S-Class is available in sedan, coupe and Maybach formats. Globally, it is also available as a convertible. All models, other than the Maybach, gets high-performance AMG variants.
