The next generation of the Porsche Panamera has been spotted testing with almost no camouflage. Only the rear tail light cluster had a small bit of camouflage on it.
On the outside, the car gets a new front bumper, new headlights, tail lights, new alloy wheels and a slightly redesigned rear end. The car also looks sleeker than the outgoing model with a more raked rear screen. On the inside, it gets a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a new 3-spoke steering wheel that seems to have been taken from the 918 Spyder hypercar. The centre console is also completely new with touch controls replacing the traditional buttons. The next generation Porsche Panamera will be available in three body styles: 5-door coupe, 5-door Sport Turismo and a long wheelbase version.
The second generation of the Panamera will be based on a new MSB platform which uses aluminium and some composites. The result is a much lighter car than the current version. Powering the vehicle will be V6 and V8 petrol engines. Just like the current car, a V6 diesel and a hybrid car will also be launched. A full electric might also be launched at a later stage. Power will be sent to the rear wheels or all four wheels. The platform will be shared with the next generation Bentley Continental GT and the Bentley Flying Spur.
The template for the Panamera is based on the 991 version of the Porsche 911, which uses six different types of materials. This has helped reduce the weight of the 911 even though it has grown in size. The Panamera is also expected to grow with a slightly longer wheelbase but these measures would help keep its weight in check.
The new Porsche Panamera is expected to be launched later this year and will come to India next year.
