The next generation Renault Duster will be a seven seater and will hit the Indian shores by 2017.
Renault’s Duster spearheaded the compact SUV revolution when the French launched the car in India in 2012. And it was a success too as the Duster didn’t have much competition then till the Ford EcoSportarrived. But the Duster had its strengths, with its SUV like proportions it had car like driving manners. Ride quality is also good and with a decent ground clearance of 205 mm, it can handle a bit of the rough too. An AWD Renault Dusterwas also launched to make it a more capable off roader too.
The Renault Duster was a value for money proposition too with a monocoque SUV for the price of a sedan and would take the abuse & punishment and still stand strong. A fuel efficient 1.5 litre diesel engine is the final cherry on top.
With the launch of the Hyundai Creta, the Renault Duster might be showing its age, prompting a face lift to be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Renault Duster facelift will have new redesigned headlights with DRLs and tail lamps with a new design. A touch screen infotainment system and a reverse camera will also be made standard too. An AMT or Easy-R automatic option is on the cards too for the Renault Duster facelift.
Now coming to the next generation Renault Duster, will come with a new front grille and a lower front bumper. Renault might be trying to change the utilitarian image of the Duster to a more stylish modern car. Now a complain that the Duster had was it could only seat five, and an extra pair of seats would be welcome. Well the next generation Renault Duster is longer by 15 centimetres, as can be seen in the spy shots where the quarter glass after the B-pillar is elongated to accommodate a third row of seats.
Engines might be updated ones on the current Duster with figures in the 90 and 120 bhp range, tuned for more efficiency, both engines paired to a five speed gearbox. A start stop system might also be present too, to cut the engine idling for long periods of time. New upmarket upholstery trims and wheels will also be present too to freshen up the interiors. Pricing will also be competitive as Renault plans to increase localization on the new Duster.
