Toyota Avanza Might Come To India In 2018

Toyota is all set to launch the Innova Crysta in India soon and it was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this month.

While the current Innova starts at INR 12.64 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the new Crysta will be much more expensive. This is because many of the major components for the new Innova Crysta have to be imported. This makes the Innova more expensive. The vehicle is already the most expensive MPV in the segment. Along with the Innova Crysta, Toyota also plans to launch the Innova Cross, which will be placed below the Crysta.

To take on MPVs that are at a lower price range, Toyota is looking to launch the Avanza in India. The second generation of the Avanza was launched in 2011 in South-East Asian markets. It is also on sale in South Africa. The next generation of the MPV is expected to make its global debut sometime next year and it could head to India in 2018 or 2019.

The Avanza is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine or a 1.4-litre diesel engine. Both the engines will be available with a manual transmission or an automatic transmission. It will be equipped with safety features like dual airbags and ABS as standard.

The Toyota Avanza is expected to be priced between INR 8 lakhs to INR 12 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Renault Lodgy, Honda Mobilio and a compact MPV from Hyundai, which will be launched in the country in 2017.

Toyota has already established itself as a strong contender in the MPV segment and they want to make it stronger now. They do not have any MPV below the Innova and the Avanza is a good bet. For now, Toyota is looking to launch three MPVs this year. They are the Innova Crysta, Innova Cross and the Hiace.
