New Honda Jazzis expected to go on sale in India by June 2015. The eagerly awaited premium hatchback will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. While its predecessor didn’t quite shine in the Indian market owing to its high price tag, the latest gen model is expected to be priced competitively since the localization levels are much higher now (engines are now locally manufactured).

The New Honda Jazz would be launched by June 2015.

Autocar India reports that the India-spec hatchback’s range will include a CVT automatic variant. To be available exclusively in the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol motor, the CVT would be derived from the City sedan. Unlike conventional CVT’s that prioritize fuel economy by compromising on the low-end response, Honda’s gearbox benefits from a compact torque-converter (liquid coupling) which delivers higher torque at low-end and medium-range.

The 1.2-litre petrol motor which also powered the previous gen car is capable of 88 PS and 109 Nm of torque. The standard transmission option is a 5-speed manual unit. The volume spinner however is expected to be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine which has proven to be a cash cow for the Japanese automaker in the Indian market.

The CVT gearbox could be offered with paddle shifters as in the City.

The oil burner produces an impressive 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The motor employs a 5-speed manual transmission for the Amaze and Mobilio, and a 6-speed manual unit for the City. It remains to be seen which one will feature in the upcoming Jazz.

The 2015 Honda Jazzis estimated to be priced between INR 5-7.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). Competition would come from the Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto and the upcoming Maruti Fronx (YRA). The Honda hatchback is a huge hit in the international markets due to its excellent cabin space, features and fuel efficiency, all of which will ensure a good acceptance in India as well.

Heavily localization should result in competitive pricing.
