Mahindra Scorpio automatic variant has been officially launched today, with S10 feature package. Scorpio is the only ladder frame SUV in its class to feature automatic transmission, which is a 6-speed unit. It is offered in 2WD (Rear Wheel Drive) configuration as standard, with 4WD as option. Price of Mahindra Scorpio automatic is Rs. 13.13 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), for 2WD variant.
According to Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., “The Scorpio broke new ground when it was launched more than a decade ago and since then we have regularly upgraded the Scorpio to ensure that it stays relevant. At Mahindra, it is our constant endeavor to make advanced technology more accessible and affordable to our customers. In fact, the Scorpio was the first Indian SUV to launch an Automatic transmission in 2008 and, now, we offer our customers an automatic option on Scorpio’s New Generation Platform. I am sure that the New Generation Scorpio Automatic will be an instant hit with our customers and further enhance the appeal of this iconic brand.”Although the previous generation Scorpio had offered automatic, Mahindra had not unveiled the latest generation form with an automatic gearbox when it was launched last year.

The Scorpio will be offered with the automatic gearbox only on the range topping S10 variant. However, customers will still have a choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. While the rear-wheel drive variant of the Scorpio is said to be priced at Rs. 13.26 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai) which will translate to Rs. 15.86 lakhs on road; while the four-wheel drive variant of the automatic Scorpio costs Rs. 14.50 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai) and the same on road will be Rs. 17.30 lakhs. Booking amount is Rs. 50,000, waiting period of either variant is said to be 20 days.
The automatic variant of the Mahindra Scorpio comes at a steep price of INR 15.49 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai).
Apart from the automatic gearbox, the new variants of the Scorpio do not feature any cosmetic or mechanical updates. The Mahindra Scorpio’s S10 trim is powered by the familiar 2.2 l mHAWK engine that churns out 120 hp @ 4000 RPM and 280 Nm of torque @ 1800 RPM.
The current generation Scorpio sports a host of features such as LED DRLs, ABS with EBD, LED taillamps and rear parking sensors.
2015 Mahindra Scorpio sports a host of features such as an engine immobilizer, automatic climate control system, ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), rear parking sensors and various others. The exterior sports LED daytime running lights as well as all LED taillamps. The integrated music system features a touchscreen interface complete with GPS navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. Mahindra’s biggest rival in this segment is the Tata Safari Storme.
