Renault Kaptur officially made its debut with focus firmly on the emerging markets.
RenaultKaptur is a 5 seater crossover based on the Dusterplatform already sold in India and has a European styling. with the shared platform, it measures 4,333mm long, 1,613mm high and 1,813mm nearly the same as the Duster. The car should not be mistaken for the Renault Captursold in the European market as it is based on the low cost platform rather than the Clio platform on which the similar sounding Captur is based. The ground clearance is 204 mm with the boot volume of 387 litres which can be increased to 1,200 litres by fully folding the rear seats.
The styling cues are similar to the Captur with subtle changes like a redesigned bumper and the DRL’s. The tailgate has been reworked with bumper and skid plates. The Kaptur will most probably be placed a step higher than the Duster but will come with a different nameplate. It could ride on 16/17 inch rims and come with 7-inch display and Bluetooth connectivity, Remote Engine Start system.
The engine options are under wraps as of now but the standard 1.5-litre mill looks like the most likely choice along with the option to choose from either a manual of automatic transmission. The higher trims will get an all wheel drive system for limited off-roading duties.
“To design Renault Kaptur, we have mixed the best of Renault’s eye-catching design with a specific attention to Russian needs for off-road abilities, travelling comfort and versatility,” said Laurens van den Acker, Corporate Design, Vice President, Groupe Renault, at the model’s presentation in Moscow on March 30, 2016. “It is a genuine crossover, with a robust, expressive design.”
Renault Kaptur will be launched in India around the festive season and expect it to be priced very well as is the case with Renault Kwid.
