The Jeep Renegade has been spotted testing in the country. The test car featured a fully camouflaged body.

The Renegade is the cheapest offering from the American company and it sits below the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee. The compact SUV features rugged and styling and a butch look with a modern interior with a lot of features and equipment including a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, sunroof, personalized instrument cluster and an Uconnect system with hands-free calling.

The Jeep Renegade could soon be launched in India to take on the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta

The 4.25 metre long SUV will be powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine or a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The 1.6 litre would make more sense for the Indian market. The SUV comes with best-in-class off-roading capabilities. It gets Jeep Active Drive Low system and a Selec-Terrain system with different modes: Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud and Rock. It remains to be seen if a manual transmission would be offered along with the automatic transmission. A 2WD model is unlikely.

The SUV will be locally manufactured in India to help keep costs down and price it competitively

As of now there are no plans to launch the Renegade in India. Initially, Jeep is offering only the Wrangler, the Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRT. The Renegade is expected to be launched at a later stage. Jeep will look to manufacture the vehicle locally in India to help keep costs down. It will start at around INR 12 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Jeep Renegade will compete against SUVs like the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV 500, Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari Storme. It will not be launched before 2017.

Jeep showcased the Wrangler, the Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRTat the Auto Expo, which was held recently.
