“The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner, starting from 20th February 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly,” Honda Cars said in a statement.
The customers can also check whether their car will be covered under this campaign by submitting their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite which has been created on the company’s website (www.hondacarindia.com).
Honda recall is befause of the faulty airbag inflators
This is part of the global recall for replacement of faulty airbag inflators from the Japanese company Takata which has lead to 8 deaths globally. At the heart of the problem is the Takata airbag inflator, a metal cartridge loaded with propellant wafers, which in some cases has ignited with explosive force. If the inflator housing ruptures in a crash, metal shards from the airbag can be sprayed throughout the passenger cabin—a potentially disastrous outcome from a supposedly life-saving device.
This is the third time in last six months that Honda Cars has initiated a recall in India.
In December, Honda announced to replace the fuel return pipes on the cars. The cars that were affected by the recall are 64,428 units of the Honda City diesel engine cars manufactured between December 2013 and July 2015 and 25,782 units of the Honda Mobilio diesels manufactured between June 2014 and July 2015. In October, it recalled 3879 units of the City sedan equipped with the CVT automatic gearbox to optimize the hydraulic pressure applied on the gearbox. Affected cars were manufactured between February 2014 and November 2014.
