In what is an interesting new development, Autocar India reports that Tata Hexa SUV, a new near production-ready concept, will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2015 which will commence later today (press days). This comes as a surprise since the existence of such a concept was kept under wraps until now.
The Hexa appears to be a heavily redesigned Tata Aria.
The name Hexa denotes the SUV’s seating capacity in three rows with captain seats for the middle row. The vehicle is be powered by an uprated version of the 2.2-litre DICOR four-cylinder engine producing 156 PS and 400 Nm of torque.
It remains to be seen if the Hexa Concept previews the much talked about Q501/502 twinswhich will have inputs from JLR or an entirely different product. As things stand now, it appears that latter is the case because the Q501/502 would employ Fiat’s 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine and are nowhere close to production ready (launch expected only in 2017).
The Tata Bolt Sport with 120 PS is also on display at Geneva.
The speculative rendering portrays the Hexa with Tata’s trademark chrome finished smiley grille but the sporty headlamps and the bumper with vents on the edges are new. The design will point towards the brand’s future direction when it comes to crossovers and SUVs. We simply can’t wait to see the actual car which will be accompanied by a sportier and more powerful version of the Boltat the show.
Traditionally, Tata Motors prefer Geneva Motor Show as its launch pad for its significant and globally relevant debuts. The good old Indica, Prima sedan concept designed by Pininfarina, Tata Elegante concept (Manza), Tata Xover concept (Aria) were all introduced at the previous editions of the show.
Tata Motors now has quite a few SUVs and crossovers in its pipeline (image: Nexon concept).
Tata Motors’ R&D division is currently firing on all cylinders with myriad of products in the pipeline such as the Kite twins, Nexon compact crossover, Q501/502 premium SUV twins and now the Hexa which is reported to be ready in early 2016, roughly in the same timeframe as the Nexon.
