If we look at the month of August, we have two surprising new entrants who seem to have taken the Indian market by a storm. The first is Hyundai Creta and second is Ford Figo Aspire. Hyundai Creta became the best seller in the SUV segment of the Indian auto market this August. It sold about 7,437 units while the second was Mahindra Bolero with 4,804 units. Hyundai Creta has managed about 40,000 unit sales since its launch in July and with this Hyundai plans to increase its output levels from 5,000 units to 6,500 units.
Hyundai Cretacomes with 1.6-litre dual VTVT engine which has the capability of producing a power output of 123PS whereas it can produce a maximum torque of 151Nm. Mated to a 6 speed manual transmission, Hyundai Creta also comes in with a 1.4-litre CRDI engine along with a 1.6-litre CRDI VGT engine. The top end comes mated with a 6 speed automatic transmission as well, making Hyundai Creta first in its segment to do so. The power output of 1.4-litre CRDI is close to 90PS whereas the torque produced is 220Nm while the 1.6-litre CRDI offers 128 PS along with 259Nm.
On the other hand we have the Ford Figo Aspirewhich has quite surprised the Indian market by becoming the second best-selling compact sedan for August following the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. It was launched last month and comes powered by the 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 1.5-litre petrol engine along with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The former delivered a power output of 88PS and a torque of 112Nm whereas the 1.5-litre petrol mill produces 112PS and 136Nm of power. The diesel engine produces 100PS with 215Nm. The petrol 1.2-litre comes mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox whereas the 1.5-litre petrol variant comes with 6 speed DCT transmission. The diesel mill also comes with a 5 speed manual gearbox.
Though the numbers are showing a very positive picture but only the annual sales can show how good these cars actually are. There is a lot of scope for both and these two vehicles are quite capable as well but how they fare in the long run, let’s watch!
