The Mahindra P601 LCV gets dumb bell shaped headlamps.

The prototype dons full production ready panels suggesting that market introduction is not far away. In terms of dimensions, the P601 is just as big as its primary rival Tata Ace Zipwhich recently reached a production milestone of 1 lakh units thus highlighting the importance of the segment. In Mahindra’s LCV lineup, the new model will slot between the Gio and Maxximo Plus as a last mile intra-city cargo carrier.

The design is simple with dumb bell shaped headlamps and a compact cabin. Speaking of the cabin, the earlier spyshotsrevealed that the micro pickup will come with a dash-mounted gear lever and a dashboard which heavily borrows from the Maxximo Plus.

Payload capacity is expected to be around 600-700 kg.

Our sources say that the P601 would employ a new engine rather than adopting the 909 cc twin-cylinder diesel motor from its big sister. The power output is expected to range between 15-20 PS and transmission is likely to be handled by a 4-speed manual unit. Going by the segment, the payload is estimated to be in the range of 600-700 kg.

Initially, the P601 commercial vehicle was expected to be produced at Mahindra’s upcoming Cheyyar facilityin Tamil Nadu. However, the infrastructure would take more time than expected and moreover it will start initial operations only as a test track. The production plant would be set up later if market conditions warrant it, as stated earlier by top company officials.

The vehicle is expected to feature a new engine.

The Mahindra P601 will be built at one of the company’s existing manufacturing sites. With the new vehicle, Mahindra would be hoping to expand its market share in the LCV segment by covering a wider audience base.
