India 4×4 week to be held in Goa

Goa will be the host of first ever India 4×4 Week (IXW) to coincide with the initial days of the Rain Forrest Challenge India 2016 from 22nd July to 24th July 2016.

The event will have displays with participation expected from leading 4X4 vehicle manufacturers, off-road equipment manufacturers, and distributors. The event will see manufacturers’ test tracks, a number of off-road tracks and trails will be created for visitors to drive their own 4WD vehicles on. Since the event is coinciding with the Rain Forrest Challenge held at the same venue, participants and visitors will be able to witness the offroaders battling it out in the 12 Prologue special stages of RFC 2016.  Another important element of the convention will be the knowledge, training & certification sessions on off-road driving, vehicle preparation, restoration and many other intriguing aspects of 4WD vehicles for which the registrations will begin shortly on the India4x4week website.

As per Cougar Motorsport’s Founder & Director Mr. Ashish Gupta,”The Indian 4X4 community has seen an exponential growth over the last few years. The fact that all auto majors have been aggressively launching and marketing vehicles with 4WD capabilities is a testimony of this. With the launch of RFC India three years ago, we have successfully brought to the country an international level off-road motorsport event which brings hundreds of off-roaders to Goa annually to compete in and witness the event. However, till date there is no established national platform for manufacturers of vehicles with 4WD capability, their owners and everyone with an interest in such vehicles to interact. Hence, with IXW, we plan to bridge this gap and establish a credible annual convention for 4X4 and off-roading enthusiasts and industry.”

IXW is being organised in association with some of India’s most prominent 4X4 clubs and institutions including BODA Offroaders Bengaluru, Charminar Off Road Adventure Club Hyderabad, DOT Goa, Gerrari Offroaders Chandigarh, Northern India Offroad Club and Pune Pathfinders.

Skoda Snowman

The ŠKODA Snowman is 9.13 metres long (with snowplough and snowblower) and 2.50 metres wide without tracks (5.26 m with snowplough). The design is aesthetic and functional at the same time; visually, the lines create extraordinary width. Sharp lines surround sculpturally carved-out surface, crystalline elements characterise the brand logo, the vertical struts in the trapeze-shaped grille and the four narrow, wedge-shaped headlights. The company states, ” ŠKODA’s great values, such as above-average space, functionality and excellent value for money, have been key for the development.”

The ŠKODA Snowman is the first ŠKODA production model with plug-in hybrid drive. It has a power output of 295 kW (400 PS), torque of 650 Nm. Downhill, the highly efficient drive recuperates energy and feeds it to the lithium-ion battery. The power is transferred to the two caterpillar tracks via a transfer case. The ŠKODA Snowman has a top speed of 20 km/h, can climb gradients of up to 100 per cent and can also turn on its own axis. The average fuel consumption is approximately 14 litres per hour.

ŠKODA is even adopting a new approach with regards to the operating and display concept. The steering wheel is shaped like a control stick, which the driver uses to control all functions. The connectivity concept is also purely high-tech: the ŠKODA Snowman is wirelessly connected to the mountain station.

The generously sized glass cabin offers space for up to three people, the air-suspended driver’s seat can be heated. The ‘Simply Clever’ features typical for ŠKODA include a magnetic snow shovel holder, a heated cup holder for a Thermos flask and a multi-function box for snow boots and avalanche transceiver. A climate-controlled storage compartment for keeping sunglasses fog-free and for drying hats and gloves is available as an optional extra. The ashtray features an automatic fire extinguishing system that uses snow from the surrounding air.

With the Snowman, ŠKODA is now entering into completely new business and customer segments. The ŠKODA Snowman will be launched in Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and other important European markets in December 2016. The starting price is 280,000 euros.

Auto Expo 2016 India – Aston Martin, Maserati, Bentley to Debut

The Indian Auto Expo 2016, slated to be held in February 2016 could mark the debut of global brands like Aston Martin, Maserati and Bentley.

The Indian Auto Expo 2016, slated to be held in February 2016 could mark the debut of global brands like Aston Martin, Maserati and Bentley. According to reports in the industry circles, the luxury car makers are looking forward to a spot in the mega event which is conducted bi-annually in the capital of India. With the sales figures of the luxury segment growing every year, the move can be considered as a part of possible future expansion plans of the firms. The sports luxury segment has also been reporting improved sales every year however, the numbers aren’t high as of now.

The 13th Indian Auto Expo might have Bentley, Maserati and Aston Martin as the newcomers.

The Fiat group owned Italian luxury car maker Maserati currently has no dealer in India and a debut next year could help the firm to improve its presence in the country, at least could serve as a starter. Later, it might always plan to get its share in the evolving luxury car market of India. Things should not be very difficult for Maserati as its parent firm, Fiat already has its presence across the nation.

Reports have suggested that executives from Fiat were in India to hone in on potential dealers

Aston Martin and Bentley are relatively better equipped as far as presence in the Indian market is concerned. Both of them have their separate dealerships in Delhi and Mumbai. However, the major numbers are clocked by the 3 big German players, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Bentley currently has 2 dealers in India.

The Auto Expo is organized by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), CII and Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). Implementing learnings from the previous events, the 2016 edition of the expo will be held in two separate venues (similar to the 2014 event).

Aston Martin will like to make its mark in the luxury and sports luxury segments of the Indian automotive market.

The motor show will be conducted at the India Expo Mart at Greater Noida and the component show will be held in Pragati Maidan. Most probably, like last year, the first two days will be exclusively reserved for media and from 5th till 9th, the expo will be open for the public. The previous event accounted for 70 unveilings, of which 26 were global models; the number is expected to be surpassed this year.

2014 Tata Aria Launched At Rs 9.95 Lakh

2014 Tata Aria Launched At Rs 9.95 Lakh

The Tata Aria was the first model to popularize the use of the word crossover.

The Tata Aria was the first model to popularize the use of the word crossover. Tata promoted this vehicle extensively and went all out to get itself a great global image. They even carried out an online contest where if you answered some 30 odd questions right you stood a chance to drive home in an Aria. However, despite all this the crossover’s ambitious pricing didn’t bode well with the Tata badge and the sales never managed to pick up. In a bid to revive this name, Tata has just launched the 2014 Tata Aria.

Tata Aria front

Priced at Rs 9.95 lakh the all new Aria gets side body decals, dual barrel headlights with projector lights, clear lens for the tail light clusters and a black bezel for the headlamp cluster (available only on the top-end model which is priced at Rs 14.74 lakh). Under the hood of the Aria is the same 2.2-litre diesel power plant, but it has been re-tuned for improved performance. The engine now produces 150 ps/148 hp of power (10 more than the outgoing model) at 4000 rpm, while the peak torque of 320 Nm kicks in at a lowly 1500-3000 rpm.

The new Aria has 3 variants

An integral part of the Aria is the fact that Tata offers features and niceties by the bucket-load. In the base Pure LX 4×2 (Price Rs 9.95 lakh ex-Delhi), the Aria comes equipped with features like anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution (EBD). The mid range, Pleasure 4×2 (Price Rs 12 Lakh Ex-Delhi) comes with steering mounted controls, rear wash wipe, rear defogger, reverse parking sensors and front airbags additionally. The range topping Prestige 4×4 (Price Rs 14.74 lakh Ex-Delhi) gets black and plum leather upholstery, sat-nav, reverse camera, 360 watt Harman infotainment system with Blue 5 Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, climate control, electric folding ORVMs, side and curtain airbags Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and traction control along with the features of the mid range variant.

Tata Aria profile

In terms of pricing the Aria is at a good stand-point and is close to the Innova, but even with more features on tap, beating the Innova is difficult. With the rising popularity of crossovers, the Aria can no longer target just the Innova. The car by itself is quite a wholesome package, but the Tata badge and the fact that it has been called a “Bloated Indica” always ruins the reputation of an otherwise great vehicle.

Tata Aria 4X2 launched in India at a price of INR 11.61 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi

What had to happen a year ago has finally happened, as Tata Motors Limited has finally unwrapped the Tata Aria Crossover 4X2 cut price version, even as the Mahindra W201 World SUV and the Force One SUV launches are just around the corner.

Tata Aria 4X2 Crossover

has finally happened, as Tata Motors Limited has finally unwrapped the Tata Aria Crossover 4X2 cut price version, even as the Mahindra W201 World SUV and the Force One SUV launches are just around the corner. Team ICB was the first automotive publication in India to confirm the news of a 4X2 version of the Ariaunder development, after we spotted a workshop manual of the Tata Aria featuring details about how to service a 4X2 version of the Aria Crossover.

The dismal sales of the Tata Aria Crossover, could be one reason why Tata has come up with the 4X2 version at a very competitive price tag beginning from INR 11.61 Lakhs. Tata has launched an all new variant of the Aria 4X2 called the Pure, which will now be the entry level Aria, at INR 11.61 Lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Two more variants called the Pleasure and Prestige sit above the Pure variant, at INR 12.61 Lakhs and INR 14.21 Lakhs respectively.

Tata Aria 4X2 Crossover

The Tata Aria 4X2 Crossover is now expected to give a tough fight to the likes of the Toyota Innova’s top end variant and with the launch of the cut price 4X2 version of the Aria, expect sales of the flagship model from Tata motors’ stable to dramatically pick up. The spec level of the middle and top end variant of the 4X2 version of the Aria, namely the Pleasure and Prestige, are  to remain the same as on the 4X4 version with the only significant difference being that of the deletion of 4X4 system.

Comparing the price of the Tata Aria 4X2 version with the 4X4 version, it can be found that the price difference is to the tune of INR 60,000. This seems to be a deliberate tactic by Tata Motors to ensure that the price difference between the 4X2 version and 4X4 versions aren’t too large to ensure that existing Aria customers don’t get miffed. However, the Aria 4X2 Pure variant being the stripped out version will ensure that it sits at that psychological price point of under INR 12 Lakh to bring prospective buyers into Tata showrooms.

Tata Q501/502 Premium SUV Rendered

Popular rendering artist Theophilus Chin has worked his magic and gave a virtual form to a pair of SUVs which is so far left to readers’ wild imagination.

Popular rendering artist Theophilus Chin has worked his magic and gave a virtual form to a pair of SUVs which is so far left to readers’ wild imagination. We are talking about the Tata Q501/Q502SUV duo which is reported to be under development.

Tata Q501/Q502 will have technical inputs from JLR so we could see the influence in the design as well.

The rendering artist has chosen the recently unveiled Hexa SUV(revamped Aria) as the design inspiration and we think the final result may not be far off the renderings. What we have is a bold looking Tata SUV with a modern appeal and right proportions. In other words, the Q501/502 could be a shortened versions of the Hexa SUV in terms of design.

To become the flagship passenger car offerings of the Indian automaker, the Q501 and Q502 are reported to have technical inputs from Jaguar Land Rover. Some reports even suggest that the twins could make use of Land Rover Discovery Sport’s underpinnings. Either way, the association with JLR is going to be the upcoming Tata premium crossovers’ trump card.

The rendering portrays an edgy design which incorporates sculpted bonnet, a honeycomb meshed grille with a trough shaped silver insert, wraparound projector headlamps and a sporty bumper with silver inserts.

The renderings have the Hexa concept as the source of inspiration.

The profile is characterized by a Range Rover Evoque -like silhouette with a subtly tapering roofline. The cantilevered roof, black lower body cladding, large alloy wheels and generously proportioned greenhouse would give the Q501/Q502 the necessary premium feel.

The rear fascia, like that of the Hexa’s, could get angular wraparound taillights, a prominent chrome strip and a massive silver diffuser with dual exhausts. While the Tata Q501 is expected to be a 5-seater, a Q502 would offer a third row.

Going by the previous reports, the twins are likely to adopt Fiat’s 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel enginewhich is set to be localized in India for the upcoming Jeep products rather than borrowing JLR’s new family of 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines. However, it’s a bit too early to predict with reasonable accuracy.

The Q501 is expected to be a 5-seater while the Q502 would be a 7-seater.

The Tata Q501/502 are expected to be ready for the market sometime in 2017 and could be previewed by a design study before that. They are a part of the company’s massive SUV onslaught.

Would you like the Tata SUV duo to look like these renderings? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

2017 Jaguar XE debuts at Detroit Autoshow, JLR cracks sales record in 2014

2017 Jaguar XE debuts at Detroit Autoshow, JLR cracks sales record in 2014

Things have been on quite a cracking roll for JLR recently.

Things have been on quite a cracking roll for JLR recently. New cars, excellent PR, record-breaking sales figures and the brand image has risen consistently over the years. All of which has instilled confidence in the manufacturer to come with exciting cars – like the 2017 Jaguar XE, which made its US debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

We have been following up on the little Jag since its auto show starring moments in 2014. Quite an impeccable piece of machinery it is as the XE blends form and function in the typical British way. Many have been patiently waiting for the mini-Jag which is being sharpened to take on the German trio of Merc edes Benz CLA, Audi A3 and the BMW 3-Series all of which by the way are competent machines on their own right.

Powered by a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 340bhp of stallion attitude and 332 pound-feet of torque, the XE can launch into a 0-96kph sprint in 5.1 seconds. The top speed has been electronically limited to the standard issue 250kph. An ZF eight-speed automatic with paadle shifters has been strapped on to harness the beast. If you are more into economy over tarmac-tearing, then a range of 4 cylinder engined versions of the XE are also being readied. Though rear wheel drive is the norm of the range, four wheel drive has been kept as an option to those who seek additional thrills.

Expected to hit showrooms across the world by mid-2015, the Jaguar XE also features on Jaguar India’s launch plans. With all three German marques already in the race with their “budget” sedans, the buyer who is on the lookout for something that stands out from the understated Audi, the flashy Merc and the driver’s Beemer can try a bit of British engineering and flamboyance for a change.

The new Jaguar ad featuring Sir Ben Kingsley, Mark Strong and the extremely likeable Tom Hiddleston can give you a dozen more reasons on the Jaguar’s appeal.

In other news, JLR has sold a record-breaking 462,678 cars in 2014. Posting a 9 percent improvement over the previous year, JLR is savouring the glory of the best sales year in its history. Maruti Swift Windsong special edition launched at INR 5.14 lakhs

Maruti Swift Windsong special edition launched at INR 5.14 lakhs

After being unveiled in November, the Maruti Swift Windsong special edition has been launched in India at INR 5.14 lakhs for the petrol variant and INR 6.1 lahs for diesel variant (ex-showroom Delhi).

There are no mechanical changes that have been made to the Swift on this special edition

Special editions are now par for the course in the Indian market but there seems to be some lack of clarity on just how much it takes to make a limited run version special. Often, a stock model with different body graphics and maybe a new color gets pedaled with a “special” tag on it. Thankfully, the new Maruti Swift Windsong does a little more to earn its title.

Based on the VDI/VXI trims, the slightly gratuitous body graphics of the Swift Windsong special edition is its most noticeable feature. Apparently this version of the hatchback is meant to bait music enthusiasts, as demonstrated by the treble clef and other musical notations inscribed along the side of the car. But what’s a special edition without the racing stripes? Thus the bonnet and roof of the car sport two black lines running along the middle.

The black seats are tastefully embroidered with bright yellow highlights and the front has ambient blue lighting on the floor

Modifications made with the cabin of this Maruti Swift special edition are more substantial and palatable than those on the outside. The black seats are tastefully embroidered with bright yellow highlights. Ambient blue lighting on the floor at the front of the car is a nice touch. Also thrown in the mix are illuminated sill guards, floor mats sporting the Swift badging, a touch-screen display from Sony boasting Siri eyes-free and reverse parking sensors.

There are no mechanical changes that have been made to the Swift on this special edition. The car retains its 1.2 litre K-Series petrol and 1.3 litre DDiS diesel powerplants. Both are mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Pricing of the Swift Windsong will be announced in a couple of days, around which time units will also reach dealerships

The special edition Swift comes just days after the launch of the Tata Boltin a bid to steal the limelight from the new launch.

Tata Hexa SUV Concept world premieres at Geneva – BREAKING!

Tata Hexa SUV Concept world premieres at Geneva – BREAKING!

: The Tata Hexa SUV concept has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2015.

: The Tata Hexa SUV concept has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2015. The SUV appears to be a heavily redesigned Aria with rugged design elements such as prominent grille, busy front bumper, squared off bonnet, wraparound healdamps and taillights, lower body plastic cladding, blacked out D-pillar and bolder sheet metal surfaces.

The Tata Hexa previews the brand’s future design direction.

Original article:

In what is an interesting new development, Autocar India reports that Tata Hexa SUV, a new near production-ready concept, will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2015 which will commence later today (press days). This comes as a surprise since the existence of such a concept was kept under wraps until now.

The Hexa appears to be a heavily redesigned Tata Aria.

The name Hexa denotes the SUV’s seating capacity in three rows with captain seats for the middle row. The vehicle is be powered by an uprated version of the 2.2-litre DICOR four-cylinder engine producing 156 PS and 400 Nm of torque.

It remains to be seen if the Hexa Concept previews the much talked about Q501/502 twinswhich will have inputs from JLR or an entirely different product. As things stand now, it appears that latter is the case because the Q501/502 would employ Fiat’s 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine and are nowhere close to production ready (launch expected only in 2017).

The Tata Bolt Sport with 120 PS is also on display at Geneva.

The speculative rendering portrays the Hexa with Tata’s trademark chrome finished smiley grille but the sporty headlamps and the bumper with vents on the edges are new. The design will point towards the brand’s future direction when it comes to crossovers and SUVs. We simply can’t wait to see the actual car which will be accompanied by a sportier and more powerful version of the Boltat the show.

Traditionally, Tata Motors prefer Geneva Motor Show as its launch pad for its significant and globally relevant debuts. The good old Indica, Prima sedan concept designed by Pininfarina, Tata Elegante concept (Manza), Tata Xover concept (Aria) were all introduced at the previous editions of the show.

Tata Motors now has quite a few SUVs and crossovers in its pipeline (image: Nexon concept).

Tata Motors’ R&D division is currently firing on all cylinders with myriad of products in the pipeline such as the Kite twins, Nexon compact crossover, Q501/502 premium SUV twins and now the Hexa which is reported to be ready in early 2016, roughly in the same timeframe as the Nexon.

Tata Hexa automatic gets 6-speed unit from General Motors?

Tata Hexa automatic gets 6-speed unit from General Motors?

Tata Motors must be working on piecing together the upcoming SUV previewed by Tata Hexa concept now, at a component manufacturer/supplier level, to get the car ready for launch, hopefully by early 2016.

Tata Motors has found a way to preserve all the hard work they put in for the Aria MPV, and sell it with a brand new appeal.

Information has leaked that Tata Hexa automatic variant that is known to debut a new 6-speed automatic transmission will be receiving kits from General Motors Powertrain (GMPT) – a division of General Motors Corporation. In addition, or maybe as a result, the gearbox setup is said to be of much higher quality than the units offered in SUVs under Rs. 30 lakhs in India. Indirectly hinting that Tata Hexa automatic will be smoother and more responsive than Toyota Fortuner automatic.

Then, on a similar note, the new Hexa SUV with wildly renovated design, inline with Tata Motors’ next-gen design philosophy, will have to be tweaked to be feasible and cost effective for mass production. That job, of taking care of manufacturing feasibility and tooling for related components, is said to be outsourced to LG, Korea. This is the same firm that renders design consulting and similar services for major auto manufacturers including Hyundai.

This package which is now marketed as SUV, since the earlier premium MPV campaign failed to take off, has better chances of seeing success.

This new design developed by Tata Motors is said to reduce the coefficient of drag as compared to its original model, Tata Aria. This has reportedly resulted in marginal increase in fuel efficiency and top speed.

Tata Aria MPV was already highly capable in terms of its functions, including going off-road. There is already a 4×4 variant on offer. So it may not be a difficult task to spin it as a functional SUV.

Some of the known specifications of upcoming Tata Hexa based SUV, include DRLs on front end, LED tail lamps at the rear, 19 inch alloy wheels shod with 235/55 section tyres, 2.2 litre Varicor 400 diesel engine producing 155 PS max power and 400 Nm peak torque and Terrain Response system.

Range Rover Evoque Enters CKD Assembly in India With Price of INR 48.73 lakhs!

The Range Rover Evoque becomes all the more tempting as local assembly slashes price significantly.

Range Rover Evoque Get’s Locally Assembled

Land Rover’s Evoque needs no introduction. A vehicle whose interior design has inputs from Victoria Beckham is a rage among the world and continues to sell like hot cakes ever since it debuted four years ago. Recently Land Rover gave it a mild faceliftand showcased it at the Geneva Motor Show which is yet to come to Indian shores. Meanwhile the good news is that the Evoque is now locally assembled and the prices have been slashed by nearly INR 20 lakhs depending on the variant.

The Evoque received a facelift at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month.

This is courtesy of local assembly in Jaguar Land Rover’s CKD plant in Pune. The base variant, Pure, now starts at a startling INR 48.73 lakhs while the mid variant, Dynamic costs around INR 52.40 lakhs and the range topping variant, Prestige now costs INR 56.21 lakhs. All of the prices are ex-showroom Mumbai and are pre-octroi rates. All variants come with a 9-speed automatic transmission and also include standard features like front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera, panoramic sunroof and Land Rover’s state-of-the-art Terrain Response System which Land Rover is known for.

The new gearbox is mated to the same 2.2L SD4 diesel engine which produces 190 PS of power @ 3500 RPM and 420 Nm of torque at 2200 RPM. With the jaw dropping looks and a powerful diesel engine under the hood it has just made the customer enormously tempting to buy one. Jaguar Land Rover is showing its commitment to India by launching models and then commence local assembly as demands increase.

Range Rover Evoque, a style quotient now become more accessible

Production at the Pune plant has also tripled since its inauguration in 2011 and this latest development in the facility comes as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s plans to expand its manufacturing footprint and increasing its production capacity outside of the UK. The locally-manufactured Range Rover Evoque is now available for sale with deliveries expected to begin from early April 2015.

Evoque’s surprise price cut post local assembly poses a huge challenge to the rival car makers like Mercedes, BMW and Audi who were not very forthcoming with downward revision when their models enter local production in India.

Honda Accord Relaunch May Be Put off Till 2016

Honda has been riding a purple patch in the Indian market over the past couple of years.

Honda has been riding a purple patch in the Indian market over the past couple of years. Its Amaze has been a fixture at the top of best-selling lists in the class and the City wasted no time in climbing the ranks after being launched in its newest avatar in early 2014. Despite steadily gaining ground in the Indian market, not all of Honda’s models have been enjoying the same kind of success. The Accord was pulled of Honda India’s roster in 2013 as a result of a flagging sales pace. Earlier reports suggested the Accord would make a comeback in India in 2015. It has now emerged that Honda may put off relaunching the car until 2016.

The Honda Accord may be launched only in 2016, making the Jazz the only new car coming from Honda this year

2014 was a rather busy year for Honda, with the Mobilio MPV and City sedan being launched in India. Honda will train its energies on the Jazz hatchback for 2015, itself a model that didn’t fare too well in India. Competition in the hatchback segment has only heightened since the Jazz was laid off and Honda will be looking to fine tune the car to perfection in order to ensure a strong value proposition. Thus the Jazz may very well be the only new car from the Honda stable in the year 2015.

The Amaze and City have helped Honda build up a solid reputation as a maker of trusty mass-market cars. While such models have always moved at a healthy pace, a more recent phenomenon has been the rise of the luxury car in India. Consumers have shown a propensity for quality and reputation even at the cost of shelling out slightly or sometimes a lot more. This is what will spur H0nda on to hastily bring the Accord back to Indian shores. When it does launch, the Accord will offer both petrol and diesel engine options. The car has been in production since 1976 and the edition that will come to India will be the 9th-generation model.

: The promotional activities for the New Honda Jazz has already started in India. The company has released a new video which highlights the Jazz’s interior space and features. What it here!

Original Article

New Honda Jazzis expected to go on sale in India by June 2015. The eagerly awaited premium hatchback will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. While its predecessor didn’t quite shine in the Indian market owing to its high price tag, the latest gen model is expected to be priced competitively since the localization levels are much higher now (engines are now locally manufactured).

The New Honda Jazz would be launched by June 2015.

Autocar India reports that the India-spec hatchback’s range will include a CVT automatic variant. To be available exclusively in the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol motor, the CVT would be derived from the City sedan. Unlike conventional CVT’s that prioritize fuel economy by compromising on the low-end response, Honda’s gearbox benefits from a compact torque-converter (liquid coupling) which delivers higher torque at low-end and medium-range.

The 1.2-litre petrol motor which also powered the previous gen car is capable of 88 PS and 109 Nm of torque. The standard transmission option is a 5-speed manual unit. The volume spinner however is expected to be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine which has proven to be a cash cow for the Japanese automaker in the Indian market.

The CVT gearbox could be offered with paddle shifters as in the City.

The oil burner produces an impressive 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The motor employs a 5-speed manual transmission for the Amaze and Mobilio, and a 6-speed manual unit for the City. It remains to be seen which one will feature in the upcoming Jazz.

The 2015 Honda Jazzis estimated to be priced between INR 5-7.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). Competition would come from the Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto and the upcoming Maruti Fronx (YRA). The Honda hatchback is a huge hit in the international markets due to its excellent cabin space, features and fuel efficiency, all of which will ensure a good acceptance in India as well.

Heavily localization should result in competitive pricing.

The Hybrid variant employs the same engine and an electric motor to produce a combined output of 205 PS and 451 Nm of torque which are harnessed by an electronically controlled E-CVT. Fuel efficiency and CO2 emission stand at 19.16 kmpl and 122 g/km respectively.

Competition will come from the Skoda Superb but the Hybrid variant will continue to have its unique appeal in the segment. Both petrol and Hybrid variants are assembled at Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Bangalore facility from CKD kits.

Honda recall over 50,000 units of Jazz, City and Civic

Honda recall over 50,000 units of Jazz, City and Civic

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) on Friday said it will recall 57,676 units of City and Civic sedans and premium hatchback Jazz to replace driver side air bag inflators.

The Japanese maker will  recall 49,572 units of City sedan made between January 2012 and June 2013 and 7,504 units of premium hatchback Jazz produced during February 2012 to February 2013. In addition,  600 units of Civic produced between January 2012 and August 2012 will also be recalled for the replacement.

“The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India in a phased manner, starting from 20th February 2016, and the company will communicate with customers directly,” Honda Cars said in a statement.

The customers can also check whether their car will be covered under this campaign by submitting their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite which has been created on the company’s website (www.hondacarindia.com).

Honda recall is befause of the faulty airbag inflators

This is part of the global recall for replacement of faulty airbag inflators from the Japanese company Takata which has lead to 8 deaths globally. At the heart of the problem is the Takata airbag inflator, a metal cartridge loaded with propellant wafers, which in some cases has ignited with explosive force. If the inflator housing ruptures in a crash, metal shards from the airbag can be sprayed throughout the passenger cabin—a potentially disastrous outcome from a supposedly life-saving device.

This is the third time in last six months that Honda Cars has initiated a recall in India.

In December, Honda  announced to replace the fuel return pipes on the cars. The cars that were affected by the recall are 64,428 units of the Honda City diesel engine cars manufactured between December 2013 and July 2015 and 25,782 units of the Honda Mobilio diesels manufactured between June 2014 and July 2015. In October, it recalled 3879 units of the City sedan equipped with the CVT automatic gearbox to optimize the hydraulic pressure applied on the gearbox. Affected cars were manufactured between February 2014 and November 2014.

Mahindra P601 LCV Continues Testing – Exclusive Spyshots

The Mahindra P601 LCV has been testing for several months now and here are the latest set of spy images clicked by Team ICB in Chennai.

has been testing for several months now and here are the latest set of spy images clicked by Team ICB in Chennai. The sub-Maxximo micro pickup truck is steadily inching closer to its launch which is set for this year.

The Mahindra P601 LCV gets dumb bell shaped headlamps.

The prototype dons full production ready panels suggesting that market introduction is not far away. In terms of dimensions, the P601 is just as big as its primary rival Tata Ace Zipwhich recently reached a production milestone of 1 lakh units thus highlighting the importance of the segment. In Mahindra’s LCV lineup, the new model will slot between the Gio and Maxximo Plus as a last mile intra-city cargo carrier.

The design is simple with dumb bell shaped headlamps and a compact cabin. Speaking of the cabin, the earlier spyshotsrevealed that the micro pickup will come with a dash-mounted gear lever and a dashboard which heavily borrows from the Maxximo Plus.

Payload capacity is expected to be around 600-700 kg.

Our sources say that the P601 would employ a new engine rather than adopting the 909 cc twin-cylinder diesel motor from its big sister. The power output is expected to range between 15-20 PS and transmission is likely to be handled by a 4-speed manual unit. Going by the segment, the payload is estimated to be in the range of 600-700 kg.

Initially, the P601 commercial vehicle was expected to be produced at Mahindra’s upcoming Cheyyar facilityin Tamil Nadu. However, the infrastructure would take more time than expected and moreover it will start initial operations only as a test track. The production plant would be set up later if market conditions warrant it, as stated earlier by top company officials.

The vehicle is expected to feature a new engine.

The Mahindra P601 will be built at one of the company’s existing manufacturing sites. With the new vehicle, Mahindra would be hoping to expand its market share in the LCV segment by covering a wider audience base.

Tata Ace Zip micro truck reaches 1 lakh production milestone; pure electric version announced

Being a last mile cargo transport vehicle and the second highest selling variant among the Ace family with an average sales volume of 2,500 vehicles per month, Tata Ace Zip micro truck has proved to be a versatile and reliable LCV thereby earning a supreme brand equity.

The Tata Ace Zip created a new micro LCV segment in which it now holds 78% market share.

Speaking at the occasion, Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director, Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, said, “It (Tata Ace Zip) has found acceptability from first-time buyers and is seen as a successful self-employment generation model.” He went on to say that the Ace Zip created a new category of LCVs in India in which it enjoys a market share of 78%.

The company has invested around INR 900 crores for the construction of its Dharwad facility and it is the home base for the Ace Zip micro truck. With flexible built-in systems, the facility is capable of  assembling large numbers (approx. 90,000 units per year) and different variants of the vehicle in a mixed production mode. This plant is ISO 14001 certified for Environmental Management System Standard and ISO 50001 certified for Energy Management Systems.

The Ace Zip is set to receive several technical upgrades in the future.

After winning the Golden Peacock for Environment System in 2014 awards, Tata Motors has confirmed its plan to introduce an electric version of the Tata Ace Zip in the market. The automaker already had produced small numbers of the Ace EV at its Coventry assembly plant in 2011, wherein it was offered in four variants. Its 34 hp motor churns out 75 Nm of torque and had a claimed range of 50 km. The Ace Zip EV could be featuring similar specifications.

Further, without being specific about the time frame, Tata Motors has announced that the micro truck will undergo technical upgrades like hub reduction, new engine configurations, higher ground clearance and new fuel options including CNG.

A fully electric variant of the Ace Zip has been announced.

With the Tata Ace Zip EV, the country’s largest CV maker will be hoping to take advantage of the central government’s NEMMP 2020(National Electric Mobility Mission Plan) which aims at increasing the population of electric and hybrid vehicles in India across all domains.

is coming soon to your nearest Ford dealership. The company teased its front look recently which shows the addition of LED DRLs into the headlights.

Ford EcoSport Facelift Teaser Ford EcoSport Facelift Teaser The Ford EcoSport Facelift will get integrated LED day time running lights, new 17-inch alloys wheels and rain sensing wipers

For those who think the new EcoSport will look radically different, the answer is No. The front of the car sees a change only in the headlight cluster which now houses new LED day time running lights. Also a somewhat different design for the skid plate wraps up the changes to the front. On to the sides, you might find new design 17-inch alloy wheels on the car as the company had told that it will offer them at least as an option on the EcoSport at a later stage. Coming to the rear, Ford has thankfully retained the spare wheel mounted on the rear door. The European versions of the EcoSport had their spare wheel taken out from the rear as a study by the company revealed that the customers there preferred not to opt for the extra spare wheel as it added to the cost of the vehicle. On the other hand, in India, the study revealed that people prefer the spare wheel as it helped the car with an SUV-ish stance.

The EcoSport always came loaded with features but this one takes the game even ahead of its predecessor. The dashboard will now feature a larger 4-inch colour screen for the SYNC system, an electro-chromic rear view mirror and rain sensing wipers on top variants while lower variants might get the ‘MyFord Dock’ that was first seen on the Ford Figo Aspire sedanand the Ford Figo hatchback. The facelift EcoSport might also see the addition of a new Trend+ variant too, like the Figo siblings. Engine options will largely remain the same as the current car but the 1.5-litre diesel will definitely see a bump in power output by 10 percent to a stronger 100PS. The award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost will be continued to be offered with the facelifted car with a peak power output of 125PS and 170Nm of torque.

Ford wants to make a blockbuster comeback into the segment in which it has been losing steam lately due to the slew of new launches. The Ford EcoSport Facelift is expected to cost around Rs. 5000/- to Rs. 20,000/- more than the current car but will be easily priced below its main rivals, the Hyundai Creta and Renault Dusterby a fair margin due to its sub 4-metre proportions.

The third engine is a 1.4-litre diesel that develops 90PS of max power. The petrol is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. On the insides, the car gets a large display on the centre dash which features an infotainment system along with a satellite navigation system. The interiors also feature leather upholstered seats, steering wheel and a gear knob, a keyless entry and go system, automatic climate control and rear AC vents.

The outsides are similar to the Indian Creta with the same projector headlights with integrated day time running lights, 17-inch Diamond-cut alloy wheels, silver skid plates and roof rails. On the safety front, the Hyundai Cantus comes loaded with features like ABS with EBD, a total of 6 airbags, ESC and Hill Start Assist on top variants. The Creta’s suspension is well sorted out and feels like no Hyundai before it. The car feels stable in a straight line, handles reasonably well but could do with a bit more steering feel even though it is pretty light and easy to use.

The Hyundai Creta has been a huge hit in India and the company has been finding it hard to balance out to cater the domestic and export demand. The company has received more than 80,000 orders for the Creta. The Hyundai Creta competes with cars like the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Honda BR-V.
