Aston Martin is building a hotter track focussed version of the V8 Vantage to take on the Porsche 911 GT3. It will be called the GT8. The British company has sent out invitations to potential customers of the car along with a teaser design sketch.
Only 150 examples of the track-focussed GT8 will be built and this is the teaser sent by the company to prospective customers
The supercar will be a lightweight stripped out track-oriented car which will be made of carbon fibre, titanium and aluminium. The engine will be the same 4.8-litre V8 engine but it is expected to produce more power than the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S. Performance figures will also see an improvement. 0-100 kmph acceleration time will be around 4.5 seconds. The transmission will be a 7-speed manual or a Sportshift II automatic transmission.
Aston Martin is building only 150 units of the GT8 and it is expected to cost around 1,70,000 pounds. The car will be fully revealed to customers later this week, that means the official reveal could be near.
The current Aston Martin V8 Vantage is available in three variants. The Vantage S is the most powerful version. It is powered by a 4.8-litre V8 engine producing 430 bhp at 7,300 rpm and 490 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a Sportshift automatic transmission. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 305 kmph. The sports car returns 7.8 kms to a litre of petrol.
The GT8 will share its 4.8-litre V8 engine will the V8 Vantage but is expected to make more power
In India, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage range starts at INR 1.86 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 2.40 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It competes with the Jaguar F-Type, BMW M4 and the Porsche 911.
