New Skoda Superb Teased On Skoda India’s Website

The third generation of the Skoda Superb was launched at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It is based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform and, at 4861 mm long and 1864 mm, it is larger than the outgoing model. The wheelbase is 2841 mm. The boot space is 625 litres. Even though it is larger, the next generation of the sedan is also 85 kgs lighter. The car looks much more than the outgoing model.

On the inside, it gets an all-black interior and a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel. The dashboard features a wood trim running across it and a piano black centre console.

In terms of equipment, the new car gets LED daytime running lights, Bi-Xenon headlights and LED tail lights. On the inside, you get  electric adjustment for the front seats, tri-zone climate control, parking assist, an 8-inch touchscreen MirrorLink system, Smartlink infotainment system with iPad, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility (on the top end variant), wireless charging, CANTON premium audio system.

The engines powering the sedan will be a 1.8 litre TSI petrol producing 178 bhp and 320 Nm of torque and a 2.0 litre TDI diesel producing 148 bhp and 340 Nm of torque. Transmission options will be a 6-speed manual, 6-speed DSG automatic and a 7-speed DSG automatic. Power will be sent to the front wheels. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and gets adaptive dampers with three driving modes. It shares 50% of its parts with Volkswagen Passat which is also based on the MQB platform.

The Skoda Superb will rival the Toyota Camry, Mercedes-Benz CLA and the Audi A3. The Volkswagen Passat and the Honda Accord could join the party soon. The car will launch soon and prices are expected to be similar to the second generation which starts at INR 21.68 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 26.28 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
