Toyota Fortuner, ever since its launch has been the most successful model in the full-size SUV market. It has been selling in large numbers for a long time now, without any significant updates. The appeal amongst Indians has been its phenomenal road presence and aura. Chevrolet has brought out its Trailblazer which will be pitted against the undisputed king. Let’s see how they stack up in numbers on paper in three categories, engine, size and price.
Chevrolet Trailblazer vs Toyota Fortuner
Whose got more grunt??
Toyota Fortuner comes with two engine options, a 2.2-liter and a 3-liter variant. In fact, it is the only SUV in this segment wich gives two options. The 2.2-liter diesel mill produces 142 bhp and 340 Newton-meter of torque with an option of 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission. The 3.0-liter oil burner produces 168 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted through the same 5-speed transmission.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer comes with a 2.8-liter motor that is capable of producing 00 bhp and a massive 500 Nm of torque which makes it easily the most powerful in this category. Additionally it comes with a 6-speed transmission, again something that no other car manufacturer provides. But the drawback is that the Trailblazer will only come with 2WD system compared to the 4×4 variants available on the Fortuner.
Size matters??
Whenever a Fortuner passes by, you feel the sheer size of the beast. On the inside, sit high giving you an ego boost which makes it a crowd favorite. The Toyota Fortuner measures 4,705mm long, 1,840mm wide and stands 1,850mm tall.It has got a wheel base of 2750mm and a ground clearance of 220mm.
Believe it or not, the size of the Trailblazer is even bigger than this beast. Dimensions stand at a length of 4,878mm, width of 1,902mm and a height of 1,847mm, which is almost 100mm longer and 60mm wider than the Fortuner. Even the wheelbase is greater by 95mm at 2845mm. The ground clearance is 241mm. The Trailblazer wins this part hands down.
How big a hole does it burn in your pocket?
The Fortuner starts from Rs 24.35 lakh ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs 27 lakh ex-showroom for the 4×4 3.0-liter variant. The Trailblazer is priced at Rs 26.4 lakh.
It is going to be tough to say wich one is better on paper if we leave out the 4×4 variant of the Fortuner. An evenly contested match we say.
