The Toyota Prius by far has been the world’s best selling hybrid. Now, it may come calling on India if Toyota manages to find enough Indians willing to buy the Prius Hybrid. Toyota is all set to unveil the Prius Hybrid at the 2010 Auto Expo. The 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid features a 1.8 liter gasoline engine and an electric motor that work in tandem to keep you moving while saving fuel and cutting down on emissions too. The electric motor will be used primarily for starting and slow moving urban traffic conditions while the gasoline engine will come into operation at cruising speeds on the highways.

While many expected lithium ion batteries in the Prius, Toyota has conservatively decided to stick to the conventional batteries in the 2010 Prius Hybrid. Thus, the Prius is capable of delivering a realistic gas mileage of more than 22 kilometers per liter of fuel. This makes it an ideal option for India where traffic moves at snails pace in most crowded urban areas. The only deterrent could be due to the issue of pricing. If Toyota brings the Prius Hybrid into India as a CBU, the price will shoot up thus making the green car an un-viable option for majority of Indians. So, lets hope that Toyota assembles the Prius Hybrid in India which will make the green car a lot more affordable.
