Five sub-10 lakh car launches scheduled for Delhi Auto Expo

Volkswagen Ameo

The Polo hatchback which has a short wheelbase could get a boot to fit in the under 4000mm length to avail the benefit of lower taxes. Mechanically it might be similar to the Polo hatch that includes a 1.2-litre MPI and TSI petrol engines and the 1.5-diesel unit. It will be interesting to see if VW adds an automatic transmission variant to the new car.

This new compact sedan will face rivals like the Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent, and Ford Aspire. Volkswagen hopes the new car will drive its volumes further in the market. The company has made an investment of about 720 crore for the development of this car. The new car will be launched on 2nd February. It is expected to be priced between Rs 6.5-8.5 lakh

Honda BR-V

Front of the 2016 Honda BR-V has good road presence.

The new generation Crossover Utility Vehicle Honda BR-V will make its India Premiere at the motor show. Honda BR-V features the combination of bold, sporty appearance and handling of an SUV and spacious cabin of a Utility Vehicle. Honda BR-V will be powered by the free-revving 1.5-litre petrol that produces 119PS of max power and a 1.5-litre Earth Dreams diesel that produces a healthy 100PS. Both the petrol and the diesel will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox while only the petrol will be available with a CVT automatic gearbox which Honda claims to have completely re-engineered for this car.

The expected launch price is about Rs 9-10 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis

Suzuki Ignis, the model based on the Suzuki iM-4 concept that was first seen at the Geneva Motor Show last year. The company has named the design language as ‘Shape the Inspiration’. The boxy design will feature bigger tires and beefed-up wheel arches with moldings stressing its off-road DNA with 4×4 layout. Suzuki says that ‘a high eye point and plenty of road clearance ensure day-to-day convenience

Rumour also has it that a 1.2-litre,four-cylinder engine with the SHVS mild-hybrid system mated to CVT gearbox could also make it to the Ignis. Ignis is expected to be a sub-four meter crossover with the four-wheel drive system. When coming to India, Ignis could also get2WD option.It might get the 1.0 litre BoosterJet engine internationally and depending on the scenario when it is about to make India debut, Suzuki might decide on whether to bring this engine or not. The Ignis measures up to 3700mm, 1660mm and 1595mm in length, width and height making it perfect for Indian consumers.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Breeza

The SUV is a sub-4 metre vehicle that will be based on an all-new platform. It is based on the XA Alpha concept showcased at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo. The design of the new compact SUV will be based on the company’s new design language and will look similar to the Grand Vitara SUV. It has been codenamed the YBA.

The Vitara Brezza will be powered by the same 1.3 litre Fiat sourced diesel engine that powers the Swift and other Maruti Suzuki vehicles. The engine will get the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) which made its debut in the Ciaz sedan. Power output is expected to be 75 bhp or 90 bhp. Expect Maruti Suzuki to offer a manual transmission as well as an automatic transmission. The car will be available only in diesel variant with the launch.

Datsun Redi-Go

The Datsun Redi Go is going to be a compact car with an expected price range of Rs 3-5 lakh. It is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder engine that produces 67bhp and 104Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. It is possible that this car maybe offered with a CNG or an LPG compatible option also.
