Mahindra is developing an all-new SUV that will be based on the TUV 300. It will be called the Mahindra TUV 500 and will be larger and is expected to be a replacement to the Bolero. It will be based on an elongated platform and will be more than 4 metres long.

The exterior and the interior design of the TUV 500 will be similar to that of the TUV 500

The design of the car will be similar to the TUV 300. It will retain the boxy shape and will look more rugged than the current car. The headlights and tail lights are expected to continue from the smaller SUV. At the back, the spare tyre is expected to be placed underneath the car. In the TUV 300 and the current Bolero, it is placed on the rear door. The wheelbase of the new SUV will be longer.

On the inside, the TUV 500 is expected to get the same dashboard as the TUV 300 and will retain the rugged theme. The kit present on the smaller car will also continue to the larger vehicle. Along with that, it is expected to get more features and equipment. It will be equipped with most of the regular convenience features and will get the latest safety equipment.

Powering the vehicle will be the same 1.5-litre diesel engine but it will produce more power

Powering the TUV 500 will be the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that does duty in the sub-4 metre SUV. Power output will be beefed up to around 100 bhp. Mated to the engine will be a 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency will be around 10 to 12 kms to a litre. Mahindra might not offer a petrol engine with this large SUV.

The Mahindra TUV 500 SUV will be launched in 2017 and will be larger and more expensive than its smaller cousin. It could be priced around the same as the Scorpio. Considering the sales success of the Bolero, Mahindra might hesitate to completely remove the vehicle from the market.
