Fir time ever, Royal Enfield has built a bike for a very specific audience who want to go long and high into the mountains and want a sturdy companion to experience the thrill of riding through the landscape. Royal Enfield Himalayan has been designed completely from the ground up to make it best suited for the harsh conditions. The ex-showroom price is Rs 1.55 lakh.
Himalayan is powered by a 410cc single cylinder SOHC engine wich generates only 24.5 bhp and 32 Newton metre of torque. The power is transferred to the rear wheel by a 5-speed constant mesh transmission. The engine is equipped with a counterbalancer to reduce vibrations, hence making it the most refined Royal Enfield till date.
The Himalayan rides on 21-inch wheels at the front and 19-inch at the rear. Disc brakes make all the effort to bring the ride to a halt at both ends. Himalayan features a split seats and a range of accessories to go with the whole touring image which includes panniers, top box and custom Royal Enfield riding gear to go with it. The panniers will be bought in either leather or metal variants.
The company has set a service interval of 10,000 km and insists on spark plug change every 25,000 km. ABS will be offered as optional. The exhaust has been swept back, increasing the water wading capabilities significantly. The instrument cluster which has unique bits like altimeter and compass along with regular features like speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and trip meter.
Royal Enfield has been growing leaps and bounds under the leadership of Mr Siddhartha Lal and the company could have another winner on their hands.
