The small compact hatchback will sit below the GO and will be based on the new CMF-A platform. It will feature SUV-like looks and will have a high ground clearance. This has been proved in the spy picture which shows that the car has good clearance and crossover-like styling just like its sister car, the Renault Kwid. The tyres on the car also look similar to the ones on the Kwid. Some styling cues are expected to be taken from the concept car.
The Common Module Family (CMF) is a modular architecture that has been co-developed by Renault and Nissan. The Renault Kwid hatchback was the first vehicle in India to use this new platform. It is also the first vehicle to use the CMF-A platform.
The production version of the hatchback is expected to be powered by the same engine that does duty on the Renault Kwid. It is an 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine producing 53 bhp and 72 Nm of torque. It will mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and power will be sent to the front wheels. An automatic AMT transmission could be offered at a later stage.
The global unveil for the Datsun Redi-Go hatchback will happen on the 22nd of April. The car will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Tata Nano, Hyundai Eon and the Renault Kwid. It will be priced below the Renault Kwid, which starts at INR 2.57 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 3.53 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
