Koenigsegg is always snapping at the heels of all the established supercar, hypercar manufacturers with its eccentric designs and extraordinary performance. This time, the question is whether the company has made something that is par or even better than the Bugatti Chiron!! Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, Koenigsegg Regera is the production version of the concept shown last year.
This looks like an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile on earth with those looks and it sure does go like a rocket. Let’s compare the times to the Chiron: 100 kilometers per hour takes 2.8 seconds to the Chiron’s 2.5-second sprint. Slowly catching up, the Koenigsegg hits 200 kmph in 6.6 seconds compared to the Chiron’s 6.5-second time and literally mauls the Chiron to 300 kmph as it takes just 10.9 seconds in comparison to the Bugatti’s 13.5 seconds. That is purely INSANE. 2.6 seconds faster than a Bugatti to 300.. That’s scarily fast. To top it off, 400 kmph comes in just 20 seconds flat and acceleration from 150 to 250km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Gasp!!
Now, talking about the engine and drivetrain, Koenigsegg Regera is powered by a Biturbo 5.0-liter V8 engine it will generate over 1500 hp and over 2900 Newton metre of torque. Additionally, 800 volt, 4.5kWh battery pack, makes the Regera the world’s first 800V production car and a unique Direct Drive system that eliminates the need for a traditional gearbox. The battery pack used in the production Regera uses Formula 1 grade which weighs a mere 90 kgs More details will be available when the car is launched today.
Drive Direct system : Koenigsegg has developed a clutch-slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration. This allows the combustion engine to gain revs and power, thereby giving the sensation of a traditional downshift with the associated aural enjoyment, even without the traditional gearbox.
Apple CarPlay is standard equipment in the Koenigsegg Regera and with Wi-Fi functionality, there is no longer any need to connect a phone via USB. Inductive charging ensures that an owner’s phone remains ready for use once a journey has ended.
