The front end of the Datsun Redi-Go has been spotted for the first time. Even though the car had camouflage, we can see that the front end is largely similar to the Redi-Go concept shown at the 2014 Auto Expo.
This little hatchback will sit below the GO and will be based on the new CMF-A platform. It will feature SUV like looks and will have a high ground clearance. This has been proved in the spy picture which shows that the car has good clearance and crossover-like styling just like the Kwid. The tyres on the car also look similar to the ones on the Kwid.
The Common Module Family (CMF) is a modular architecture that has been co-developed by Renault and Nissan. The Renault Kwid hatchback was the first vehicle in India to use this new platform. It is the first vehicle to use the CMF-A platform.
The production version of the hatchback has been code named the Datsun I2. It is expected to be powered by the same engine that does duty on the Renault Kwid. It is an 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine producing 53 bhp and 72 Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and power will be sent to the front wheels. An automatic AMT transmission could be offered at a later stage.
The styling is expected to be similar to the Redi-Go concept that was shown at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The production version is expected to be launched at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. It will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Tata Nano, Hyundai Eon and the Renault Kwid. It could be priced less than the Kwid which starts at INR 2.57 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 3.53 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The Redi-Go production version will join the Go hatchback and the Go Plus MPV in Datsun’s India line-up. Datsun is also expected to launch the GO-CROSS in India.
