into India for homologation. This means that a launch could happen soon. The German sports car manufacturer has imported one unit each of the 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera S, 911 Carrera Cabriolet and the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. The coupes were imported at the end of January but the convertibles arrived only by the end of February.
After more than 50 years, the full range of the Porsche 911 is going turbocharged, starting with the base 911 Carrer and the 911 Carrera S. Visually, the car gets only minimal changes. The changes include new headlamps with four-point daytime running lights, a new engine cover, new tail lights and a new rear bumper with four exhaust pipes. On the inside, it gets a new steering wheel, PorscheCommunication Management (PCM) with online navigation and voice control, smartphone connectivity, a new navigation system which is Google Earth and Google Street View and a 7-inch display on the centre console with multi-touch gestures.
Powering the car is a new turbocharged flat-six 3.0-litre engine producing more power and torque. In the Carrera, it produces 370 bhp and 450 Nm of torque, while in the Carrera S, it produces 420 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7- speed manual or a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels.
The acceleration, top speed and fuel economy figures have also improved. The 0-100 kmph acceleration time is 4.2 seconds for the Carrera and 3.9 seconds for the Carrera S. The sports cars will go on to a top speed of 295 kmph and 308 kmph respectively. The Carrera returns 13.51 kms to a litre of fuel while the Carrera S returns 12.98 kmpl.
The new entry-level 911 gets rear-wheel steering and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which lowers the ride height by 10 mm. You can choose between four driving modes: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.
The current base Porsche 911 Carrera costs INR 1.38 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The iconic sports car competes against cars like the Jaguar F-Type and the BMW M4.
