Hatchbacks are the most popular and best selling class of vehicles in the country. Their cheap price, easy to maintain and run and good fuel efficiency draws in a lot of buyers. Here is a list of all the new hatchbacks that will showcased at the Auto Expo next month.

Maruti Suzuki

1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS

Since launch, the Baleno has become one of the most popular and best-selling premium hatchbacks. Now Maruti Suzuki is thinking about launching a new RS model which will be powered by a 1.0-litre BOOSTERJET engine that is expected to produce more than 100 bhp. The Baleno RS will also get a few cosmetic changes to make it look more sporty than the regular hatchback.

Tata

1. Tata Zica

The new Zica hatchback will make its debut at the Auto Expo next month. The Zica boasts f a new design language called the IMPACT. The car does look good on the outside as well as on the inside. Quality levels are something that has not been seen in Tata cars to date. For a small hatchback, the Zica comes well equipped. Powering the car is a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.05-litre diesel engine. Both the engine are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. An automatic AMT transmission maybe launched soon. It is expected to cost around INR 3.50 lakhs.

2. Tata Bolt Sport

Tata brought out the Bolt Sport at the Geneva Motor Show last year and it will make its Indian debut at the Auto Expo next month. Based on the Bolt hatchback, the Bolt Sport gets cosmetic upgrades like body kits and larger 17-inch wheels. It will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged engine which now produces 120 bhp. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The suspension has also been tuned to improve handling. The Bolt Sport competes with the Polo GT and the Abarth Punto.

Volkswagen

1. Volkswagen Polo GTi

Volkswagen has decided to launch the Polo GTi hot hatchback in India later this year. It will be shown at the Auto Expo. The car will a 3-door hatchback and will be imported into the country. Powering the car will be a 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 192 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The engine maybe detuned to 189 bhp for the Indian market. It is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 237 kmph. This will be the most powerful and fastest hatchback on sale in India.

Renault

1. Renault Kwid

Renault will showcase new variants of the Renault Kwid. The Kwid has become one India’s most popular and best-selling hatchbacks. The current car has an 800cc petrol engine under the bonnet. Renault will bring a Kwid that is powered by a 1.0-litre engine. The French company will also equip the Kwid with an AMT automatic transmission. The hatchback will also come with safety upgrades. The new variants will soon be launched in the country.

Datsun

1. Datsun Redi-Go

Based on the CMF-A platform, the new Redi-Go will sit below the Go hatchback and will be the cheapest car on sale by the Japanese company. The powertrain will be the same as the Renault Kwid. It will get the same engine and the same transmission. However, it could produce a little less power. The features and equipment on offer will be less than that of the Kwid. Prices could start at INR 2.5 lakhs (ex-showroom) and could go up to INR 3.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Fiat

1. Fiat Punto

Fiat has teased a hatchback for the Auto Expo. However, judging by the teaser and by previous reports, the hatchback could be the old Punto. The Italian company is planning to launch the old car again in all its trims so as to clear sales. It is expected to be called the Punto Pure and it will be powered by petrol and diesel engines. It will sit below the Punto Evo.
