Porsche Say That The New 911 Turbo S Will Lap The Nurburgring In 7:18

Porsche announced at the Detroit Motor Show that the 911 Turbo S would lap the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 18 seconds.

Porsche announced at the Detroit Motor Show that the 911 Turbo S would lap the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 18 seconds. If this is true, it would make the four-wheel drive car faster than the new 911 GT3 RS around the track. However, the new car has actually not been around the circuit to set a lap time. The circuit still has speed restrictions at certain parts after a fatal crash during a VLN endurance race last year. The speed restrictions will be removed soon but as of now, manufacturers cannot attempt timed laps due to the restrictions.

911 Turbo’s engineering boss, Erhard Mössle admitted that it was all down to digital simulation. “Some parts are driven and compared to the previous 911 Turbo,” he explained, “and the speed limited sections where you’re not allowed to do top speed are calculated. We will then go and check it later this year in spring when the speed limits are removed. But the 7:18 we are sure to meet; we are normally very conservative with times and that time was set on the standard tires, not sports tires.”

The 911 Turbo and the Turbo S is powered by a 3.8 twin turbo flat six engine that now produces 20 bhp more and more torque. In the Turbo, it makes 540 bhp while the Turbo S now produces 580 bhp. The engine redline in the Turbo S has been increased to 7,200 rpm from 7,000 rpm. The engines now come dynamic boost function that reduces turbo lag.

The 911 Turbo is now faster than before. The Turbo accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.0 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 319 kmph. The Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 330 kmph.

The new cars made their debut at the Detroit Motor Show this month. They are yet to be launched in India. The old cars are on sale here. The Turbo has been priced at INR 2.14 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi) while the Turbo S costs INR 2.57 crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
