The extra cost for the SHVS that is being imported via CBU route has been dampened by the excise duty benefit Maruti Suzuki has received for introducing a greener model, from 24% to 12.5%.

Original Story: Maruti Ciaz SHVSbrochure has been leaked online, revealing the complete specifications, features and more importantly the mileage of the first hybrid car by Maruti Suzuki. Smart Vehicle Hybrid by Suzuki is a new technology that the Japanese carmaker will be introducing in India through the flagship sedan Ciaz which is just the beginning of a blitz.

Maruti Ciaz SHVS is scheduled for market launch on the 1st of September, 2015 (today).

As anticipated, Maruti Ciaz SHVS sets a new benchmark for fuel efficiency in the country, trumping its own, recently launched product, Maruti Celerio diesel. While the latter boasts 27.62 kmpl from its newly developed 800cc twin-cylinder diesel motor, Maruti Ciaz hybrid mileage stands at an impressive 28.09 kmpl even if it’s only on paper.

Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology is available only on diesel variants of Maruti Ciaz.

The SHVS uses integrated starter generator and start/stop technology, paired to a battery with larger capacity than usual, to reduce the effort of the combustion engine in propelling the vehicle thereby reducing the consumption of fuel.

Maruti Ciaz SHVS is the most fuel efficient car in India.

This diesel hybrid version of Ciaz is set to replace the existing non-hybrid models in all variant levels except for the most affordable one. In addition to SHVS, Maruti Suzuki is said to equip all hybrid variants with two Airbags at the minimum (for driver and front passenger), while the low-end model will have only one (on the driver’s side).

There is no change to the cosmetics or dimensions of the C-segment sedan, except for the SHVS badging on the boot lid.

Since the hybrid system is not manufactured locally and hence is being imported in India as CBU (Completely Built Unit), price of Maruti Ciaz SHVS would be significantly higher than the current non-hybrid versions. Expect a hike to the tune of Rs. 30,000 to 40,000. Similar SHVS will be mounted on upcoming Maruti Ertiga faceliftas well which is expected to be launched on October, 2015. Other models like Maruti Swift & DZirewill then be introduced with the same gas saving tech.
