Currently, the S-Class range has S 350d diesel, S500 petrol, long-wheelbase Maybach S-Class in S500 and S600 .
Mercedes Benz S400 launch: It will be the entry level petrol variant and will be powered by a turbocharged V6 petrol engine
. The Mercedes Benz S400 petrol will be placed between S350d and S500petrol but will not be a hybrid as seen in some international markets. The S400 is powered by 3.0-litre twin turbo direct injection V6 which delivers 330PS of max power and 480Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to the same 7-speed GTronic transmission that also does duty on the S500. There is a possibility of it coming with an all new 9-speed transmission as well.

The S-CLass is an epitome of luxury and this variant will be no different than its S-Class siblings. It will come equipped with THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control with two climate zones, LED Intelligent Light System with variable light distribution for country roads and motorways, active light function, cornering light function, enhanced fog light function and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, the COMAND Online multimedia system, AIRMATIC, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS and PRE-SAFE as standard.
Mercedes Benz S400 is likely to be priced around INR 1.3 crore (ex-showroom). Currently, the S500 is the petrol variant in its lineup which costs Rs 1.67 crore (ex-showroom) and is made in India. The S-Class competes against the Audi A8, Jaguar XJ, BMW 7-seriesand the Maserati Ghibli.
