Mahindra has always been recognized as distinctive utility vehicle manufacturer and the brand has proved it again and again over the period. In the past one year company has explored many different segments while staying true to its image and launched cars in different domains. After launching updated XUV 500, TUV 300 and KUV 100, now they are all set to launch another new product – NuvoSport, next month on April 4 th. Although they call it as a new car, we all are well aware about the fact that it’s nothing but updated Quanto – the first sub 4 meter offering from the company. Also note that with this car, Mahindra is breaking away with their tradition of ending their car names with the letter ‘O’.

Mahindra NuvoSport had very agressive front design thanks to eyelid DRLs, skid plate, heavy black cladding intruding into front bumper and Mahindra’s very own claw design grill.

Odd proportions, least distinctive looks and mediocre quality let Quanto face cold response from the market. But it’s not yet the time to see this product go down the drain. Mahindra has been working on facelift of Quantofor a while now and as a result we now have strikingly different looking car with aggressive front end design. We have seen many cars from this stable having excessive cuts and creases all around and NuvoSport is no different speciman in that regards. Muscular front bumper design, all around black cladding , blackened out C pillar, air scoop on bonnet and many more such elements give this car a much needed macho appeal. We have to wait for few more days to see how good this car looks in flesh and does this car have a design that grows on you over the period.

Tail end is strikingly similar to outgoing Quanto.

On technical front, NuvoSport will be powered by the same 1.5 liter 3 cylinder diesel engine which produces 100 PS. Just to remind you all that, this engine made its debut in company’s portfolio with Quanto few years ago. The engine will be coupled with 5 speed manual transmission and a 5 speed automated manual transmission ( AMT) unit. Although company website says that this car is based on new generation platform, we feel that many elements from TUV 300 and Quanto have been used under the skin. We speculate that NuvoSport will be priced marginally cheaper than Mahindra TUV 300. The official prices will be only revealed on 4 thApril though. With this addition, suddenly the compact utility vehicle segments has started feeling crowded with products like Maruti Suzuki Viatara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV 300.
