Porsche 911 R To Make Its Debut At The Geneva Motor Show

The upcoming limited edition Porsche 911 R is all set to make its official debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show next month.

Details about the model emerged at last year’s Rennsport Reunion in California with a number of customers who’ve ordered the car claiming it will be dubbed the 911 R and take inspiration from the 1967 Porsche 911 R. It will be revealed in June next year, either at the 24 Hours of Le Mans or the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will be powered by the 3.8-litre flat six engine from the GT3 or maybe even the 4.0-litre flat six from the GT3 RS. The PDK automatic transmission will be replaced by a traditional manual like the Cayman GT4. The huge rear wing on the GT3 will also be removed.

Porsche is building only 600 to 800 units of this special edition vehicle and all of them have been sold out. Most of the dealers have not even heard about the model. It is being offered only to exclusive customers of Porsche’s preferred program. They are owners of the 918 Spyder or multiple Porsches or 911s. This could be the ultimate 911 or a 911 greatest hits version.

The GT3 was introduced to the world in 1999 and the third generation of the sports car (991) was launched at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. It is powered by a 3.8-litre petrol engine producing 475 bhp and 440 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission and power is sent to the rear wheels. The car accelerates from a standstill to a 100 kmph in 3.5 seconds and it goes on to a top speed of 315 kmph. It returns 8.06 kms to a litre of fuel and the carbon dioxide emissions are 289 g/km. It gets features to improve handling. These include Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and rear wheel steering. It also gets an optional Sport Chrono Package including Porsche Track Precision app.
