The E-Class has been lauded by many as the best executive sedan money can buy.
The E-Class has been lauded by many as the best executive sedan money can buy. With its latest iteration, the E-Class trumped the BMW 5 Series and Audi’s A6. However, what the E-Class and most German cars lack is a certain flair, a strong passion that only the Italians seem to have. And so it was no surprise that Maserati developed one of the most striking executive sedans available today. A blend of elegance and sporty dynamism, the Ghibli maybe the Italian counterpart of the E-Class.

First released back in 1966, the Ghibli name has been going strong for quite some time now. Essentially a smaller, mid sized version of the Quattroporte, the Ghibli shares many elements from its more powerful brother. It follows the same front engine, rear wheel drive layout as its bigger sibling. Apart from the similar drivetrain layout, the Ghibli also shares the same doors as the Quattroporte. The Ghibli features the 345 HP 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 unit which is also one of the base engines on offer for the Quattroporte. Maserati has come out with an all new variant of the Ghibli. Dubbed the Ghibli S Q4, the latest variant bearing the Ghibli name features an all new four wheel drive system. The new system adds a little over 59 kgs to the overall curb weight of the new sedan. To offset the increased weight, the Ghibli S Q4 comes with an upgraded 404 HP engine. The on demand four wheel drive system only kicks in when necessary thus reducing large changes to the overall driving dynamics of the car.

Apart from the all new four wheel drive system, the Ghibli remains more or less the same. The interiors, soaked in red leather add to the sedan’s sporty nature. The Ghibli comes with a 8.4″ touchscreen infotainment system and doubles up as a control unit for driver settings. All in all, the Ghibli S Q4 is bound to be a success and is a refreshing change to the sea of German executive sedans available in the market today.
