2016 Hyundai i30 Showcased At The Auto Expo; Launch Soon

Hyundai has showcased the new i30 hatchback at the Auto Expo in Delhi.

Hyundai has showcased the new i30 hatchback at the Auto Expo in Delhi. Surprisingly, they confirmed that the premium hatchback will be launched in India by the end of the year.

The Hyundai i30 will sit above the i20 but will cost less than INR 10 lakhs

In the international market, the i30 comes powered by petrol and diesel engines. The petrol that might come to India is the 1.4-litre engine producing around 120 bhp while the diesel will be producing around 136 bhp. A manual, as well as an automatic gearbox will be offered. The top of the line 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine could also be offered. It makes 186 bhp of power.

It is powered by a range of petrol and diesel engine and a hot hatch version is also available

The Hyundai i30 measures 4,300 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. This means that it will not qualify for the excise duty cuts that most hatchbacks in India enjoy. However, Hyundai plans to price the i30 at less than INR 10 lakhs. That should be the showroom price of the base model, similar to what Fiat did with the Abarth Punto. It will be placed above the i20. The top end diesel variant could retail at around INR 15 lakhs (ex-showroom). The variant equipped 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine will cost around INR 20 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It will take on the 3-door Polo GTi, which will be launched soon. It has not been confirmed whether this variant will make it to India or not.

The premium hatchback will be launched by the end of the year.

Just like every Hyundai, the i30 would get a lot of features and equipment to attract the customers. To achieve the desired price, Hyundai would have to aggressively localise the production of the hatchback. It will take on the Fiat Abarth Punto and the Volkswagen Polo GTi.
