Ford India has responded to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza by giving its sub-compact SUV EcoSport a steep price cut of Rs 1.12 lakh. They are more closely matched with the price difference being only Rs 29,000.

Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) Anurag Mehrotra said: “Ford EcoSport has always been recognised for its strong value proposition and this realignment further strengthens that proposition. With enhanced value for money proposition, we are extending its appeal across segments, including Rs 6-8 lakh price band which has been growing at 40 per cent since 2013.”
Ford EcoSport was much appreciated when launched and has seen stiff competition in recent times with the Mahindra TUV300 and now the Brezza launch. The Vitara Brezza comes only in 1.3-litre diesel engine and is priced at Rs 6.99 lakh for the base variant. Vitara Brezza has received 5600+ bookings in the 48 hours since its launch. The price cut is very surprising as most manufacturers have increased prices over the last few days to counter the ‘infrastructure cess’ applied by the government of India.
Ford EcoSport can be bought with either 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines or the award winning 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engine. After the facelift, the diesel engine saw power output increased by 10 percent to 100PS while fuel efficiency remains in the same league at 22.27Km/L. All engines are mated to the easy to use 5-speed manual transmission, but the 1.5-litre petrol is the only one here that can be had with a 6-speed dual clutch PowerShift automatic gearbox
