Chevrolet has showcased the Spin MPV at the Auto Expo. The American company confirmed that along with the Essentia compact sedan, the Spin will mark the next wave of products that will be launched over the next five years. It will be launched only in 2017.
The Spin will sit above the Enjoy MPV
The Spin MPV is 4.36 metres long, 1.73 metres wide and 1.68 metres high. It has a wheelbase of 2.52 metres and a ground clearance of 191 mm. It weighs 1,277 kgs.
The exterior gets the traditional Chevrolet dual front grille which is now flanked by huge bug-eyed headlamps, body coloured bumpers with round fog lamps and wrap around tail lamps. The roof gets roof rails for extra practicality. On the inside, the dashboard gets a beige and brown dual tone theme. The feature list includes a music system with USB, AUX-in and Bluetooth. The music system and the Bluetooth function can be controlled using steering mounted controls. The MPV can seat seven people in a 2+3+2 configuration and the seats are upholstered in fabric.
The MPV will mark a new generation of cars from Chevrolet
The Spin MPV will be powered by a 1.3 litre Multijet diesel that will be sourced from Fiat. It will produce 74 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque between 1,750 rpm and 2,500 rpm. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. With a growing interest in automatic cars, Chevrolet may also introduce an automatic transmission variant.
The Chevrolet Spin will be launched only in 2017
The American company will be looking to localise the vehicle as much as possible to keep costs down and price the MPV competitively. It will sit above the Enjoy MPV and will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Renault Lodgy and the Toyota Innova, which is the best-selling vehicle in the segment.
