After conquering New York, Chetan Maini’s Reva Electric is all set to drive into Iceland.
is all set to drive into Iceland. The all Indian company Reva, has signed a partnership with Northern Lights Energy of Iceland to start selling it’s cars in Iceland. As per the understanding, Reva will ship the Reva NXR to Iceland while the distribution and after sales will be handled Northern Lights Energy. This is an extremely proud moment for Indian auto engineering which is slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the global electric car arena. In fact, Reva Electric also signed an agreement with the New York based Long Island-based Bannon Automotive LLC to manufacture the Reva NXR electric car in Central New York.
Reva NXR
Coming to the Reva NXR itself, the butch yet cute looking two door hatchback looks more like an evolution of the first generation Reva model than a radical departure in the styling department. In place of the tiny little headlights of the first gen Revas, the NXR has stylish wraparound headlamps. The tail too has received major cosmetic surgery which makes it look like it belongs to 2010 and not the 1980s. It looks smart but we wouldn’t stick our heads out and call it stunning though. Meanwhile, the Reva NXR is faster, more efficient and can go longer per single charge. Reva Electric claims a top speed of 104 Kph which is pretty rapid by electric car standards.Regenerative braking and a roof mounted solar power juice up the batteries continually.
Reva NXR
More importantly, the Reva NXR can traverse a distance of 160 Kilometers per charge. a 15 minute charge will provide a range of 40 kilometers while a full charge will take an hour and a half. While Reva claims that the NXR is a four seater, don’t take it too seriously. The rear seats can seat two only if you happen to be a midget under five feet or a slightly built kid. The Reva at best is suited for transporting two full sized human beings, comfortably. With all these features, the Reva NXR makes a compelling case for itself especially as a green commute. Let’s hope that it does well enough to encourage more of it’s ilk. For us, we’d be happier burning up the next liter of dinosaur remains.
